LOA 8:

A. Pilot Protection for COVID-19 – to be effective on March 1, 2020
1. A Pilot who is non-symptomatic, but who is directed by any Company, medical, or governmental personnel, or any governmental or legal order, to receive medical evaluation, treatment, quarantine, or other prophylaxis based on concerns, conditions or events related to COVID-19 shall be removed with pay protection from all Company business for the duration of the evaluation, treatment, quarantine, or other prophylaxis.
Semantics here maybe, but just trying to follow the LOA...
Is there a difference between “directed” and “urged”??
The WH is asking or urging people to self-quarantine, they aren’t expressly directing it.
Thoughts??

I think you're correct, the details are important. Urged to me doesn't equal 'directed'.

Our LOA is a joke. So if I feel tired, or have mild symptoms and I believe it’s in my best interest to protect myself and others to quarantine I’m not pay protected. Unless symptoms are more severe I don’t even believe you can get tested, and even then you don’t get pay protected unless you prove you have the virus? Been doing nothing but turns and layovers through JFK and deadheading all over the place, only a matter of time for most of us to get this thing.

We probably have 100 pilots a day on scr at Jfk. So they either commute in from home or the pad, fly around the country, go back home or to the pad. Rinse, repeat. But we are super pilots, and essential so you just keep coming to the coal mine. I am the vector, victor.

So our LOA is worse than no LOA? If your not feeling well call out sick. Please don't be a hero that's sick and gets the other pilot sick.

if you are feeling sick, you just spent the last two weeks infecting everyone else.

4 day trip. 3 different FOs, all coughing, wheezing, throat clearing, nasal drip. Awesome. I’m not a doctor but they seemed sick to me. I straight up asked them... are you fit to fly? Yeah, yeah fine. But when you offer a first year pay guy 200% what did we expect?

A first year pay guy is not senior enough to be picking up 200%.

One told me they called him at home in NYC at 3am to come in and cover after my original dropped the trip or bugged out sick. I looked up his seniority. Less than a year.

I’m not sick, I’ll call out at the first sign of me not feeling well. That being said, I think given the circumstances we could’ve done better with our LOA. Most people aren’t displaying the full symptoms, so if I suspect I’m displaying mild symptoms do the right thing and call out shouldn’t I self quarantine by default? Then all that comes out of my PTO for operating in and out of the epicenter and deadheads.

People just aren’t getting tested unless they have severe symptoms so even if I did have the virus no one is getting pay protected for proactively calling out should they deem necessary.
