No, my brother in law is. I know his main gripe is his QOL on the 74.

Quote: As the title says, looking for input from any old sunny pilots who have moved on to "greener pastures" and what their experiences have been.

I have two offers currently. One from a legacy pax carrier and one from UPS . Both would require me to commute, moving to base is not on the table for a few years.

I was planning to hang my hat here but I am disappointed in the direction the schedules and general QOL are going. As other pilots have stated, NONE of us who came here a few years back signed up for multiple 5 & 6 day trips every month. Currently if you are not 20% in your seat you are spending half the month in hotels. I don't expect turn lines only but shorter trips with a mix of turns would make a differance .

Looking at the schedules of the other carriers, I would have the same if not better QOL commuting to a base and more days off. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around why anyone at this point would stay here. The risk to reward ratio (Better QOL) of staying here is no longer in play.
There is a major effort underway to address this. I've only been here 4.5 years, but in that time I've never seen management so concerned about addressing QOL issues. I know that's at least partially to become competitive with other carriers and slow the attrition, but it's also a genuine desire of the new management. The message has been heard loud and clear that no one is happy with mixed schedules. Local pilots don't want 6 day trips and commuters don't want turns. I think the long line solution is genius. Commuters can get paid positive space deadheads to and from these completely voluntary lines. The November lines just came out and they look pretty decent. If I lived out of base, these lines would be a no brainer. 13 days on with no stress of commuting and the rest of the month off. Want more money? No one else will have that many open days to pick up. Want more time off? well 17 to 18 off seems pretty decent to me. If you want a month off you can front load one month and back load the following month to combine your days off and get a full month off without taking vacation or missing out on pay. The last bid had I believe 20 total long lines (CA+FO) to try it out. There was far more demand for them than they originally thought. I believe ~70 pilots bid for them, so this month they increased it to 30 lines and will likely add more the following month. Ideally there will be enough long lines and enough pilots bidding for them that there are no trips longer than 4 days in the regular bid package. It's a win win for everyone.

1. Home Based (Legacy or Cargo)
2. Commuting Cargo
3. Commuting Legacy
4. Home based Sunny
5. Commuting Sunny

P.S Bid the Bus!
I’m not sure I’d take this advice if you’re local. Unless you hate your family/have no family, commuting truly sucks the life out of you. Imo Sun Country home based to #2.

Not to mention 3.5 rig, 5 hour average day, and 5 hour min day. This contract hasn’t even been fully implemented and qol gains are yet to come. Seems the TA was signed for the money and the rules come later.

I was at Sun Country for around three years. I had a great time and felt like it was one big family. I can't speak highly enough of my time there and I was going to career it. However, SCA went through many changes in my brief time and during covid if it wasn't for the luck of signing the Amazon contracts I don't know if SCA would be here today. It opened my eyes to how fragile my career was. I don't know what the future holds for SCA but I know there's pretty good odds for DL being in the airline business and being DL for the next 30 years.

Overall, I'm happy I made the jump and I want nothing but to see SCA succeed because I still have many friends there

Couldn’t agree more. I did my time commuting. I know what it’s all about and it’s a whole different world. I’ll avoid commuting as long as I can in my career.

are you sure these things will lead to better QOL and not just add turns to the front or back end of 5 and 6 days? decreasing turns for locals and making the long trips un-commutable.
PBS although a year away yet, will also make trips pay on trip rig, the least efficient for us.
whats the deal with all the commuters doing the long trips getting thanksgiving off?? does this mean the rest of us will be working?
next thing for our contract should stipulate is that any return to base ends the trip.

Are there that many turns short enough to actually fit at the front or back of trips?

Not sure I understand your issue with the 3.5 trip rig. It will either encourage the company to construct more efficient pairings or make the existing trips pay better than they currently do.

Rig and MDG will help daily efficiency. Don’t think it’ll do much for 5 & 6 day trips. The thirteen day trips might.

Attrition will cure the 6-day trip.

I think what he’s saying is something like day 5 of 5 overnight in mco for example and then fly mco-Msp-ord-Msp which is a good point. They may do something like that just the extra penalty lap. But the schedules have pairing like this already so I’m not exactly sure if this is what he meant.
