not sure about surprises but it was very underwhelming in my opinion....seems like this vacancy was nothing more than getting all the FOs back into seats...which is great, but the CA movement sucked.

Yeah, I was afraid this might happen. The CA vacancies went kind of senior. I think senior FO’s that had put it off realized (thanks to a year of no upgrades) that they should upgrade when given the chance. I wasn’t even close to my first choice, pretty dang close to my second, but no cigar.

I feel like this thing mostly unwound the displacement bid from back in September. I mean we're down to what, 13,600 pilots or so? That's 10% fewer than our peak from a year ago. We're gonna need to see some hiring before the bids start moving everyone forward again.

I guess the plan is to hire 300 this year and 600 next year. That matches up almost exactly with the number of retirement for the remainder of 2021 and all of 2022. So no growth.

This seemed like the proverbial “clean up” bid. Two more vacancy bids to come this year, along with 300 new hires, to staff for summer 2022 will be interesting.

Saw on another forum that, starting summer 2022, AA needs to hire 2-3 pilots a day just to maintain current staffing levels.

That's true, no growth. But hopefully the hiring will at least generate some movement for better seniority in our seat, upgrades, etc. This bid was underwhelming to those of us not displaced in September, but without any hiring I didn't really expect anything different. I'm hoping the bids get a little more interesting once we start seeing new faces in the Fall.
