Quote: The COO said today that they do not expect to fly the international market until 1st or 2nd quarter of 2022.

Given than, 69 pilots+ are waiting with no aircraft qualification or training plan (at all) are still sitting at home waiting on training - estimated to happen 3rd quarter.

There is a major ruffle in the senior fleet of 717’s now being assigned to 2 day red eyes; and then the incoming 787 in mid 2022 that will cause some demand for new hiring as well as the further backlog of training events caused my shifting seniority preferences and/or seat locks.

In other news the COO stated that the 717 is expected to be in the fleet well past 2025.

Pilot hiring is not likely to come until late 2022 at the earliest.
Waco, copy. I appreciate the insight.

Quote: he is mistaken, they are two day pairings with required rest on an outerisland. I think a lot of the 717 guys would prefer the continuous duty overnights though. The pairings are terrible.
I see. Do most of the 717 guys live on Oahu? Are there commutable pairings from the other islands?

majority live on Oahu but it does have a few commuters. Know there’s a handful that come over from OGG same day.

Quote: I’m not sure one person’s post on a hypothetical merger counts as a big rumor, besides that one individuals post is the only place I’ve ever heard of it, chances are probably slim and none in reality.
Yeah, this rumor pops up like clockwork every couple years... it's apparently appealing because both airlines are among the oldest and both named for non-conus states.

Although if AS was smart it wouldn't be a horrible idea to solidify their HI business with what's obviously the best brand recognition for that. The flip side is they'd probably have to dip their toes in international to justify the purchase price, and they're risk averse. They'd also have to keep the HAL brand, at least for international and some mainland-HI ops, and that might rub the SEA-centric culture wrong. But never say never.

Talk about a hit on one's QOL given that all interisland flying used to be turns. What percentage of 717 flying has gone to outer island overnights??

I think around 60%

That’s horrible. Talk about a hit to your QOL.

Not quite that high, the range looks to be about 42-53% of the pairings. But still a significant change. Off the top of my head, I can think of commuters from LIH, OGG, and ITO. The change may work out in their favor.

Life seems to be pretty good throughout the industry, domestic at least. Oh, what a difference a vaccine makes!
