Several options for getting rid of a trip: PD, APD (only 1 per year), posting on Pilot to Pilot swap board (most useful if you’re offering short and/or good trips). If you are successful at dumping your trips you may be able to out of base White slip (OOBWS) trips closer to home. I’m assuming SEA, LAX or SLC would be better for you. That was you can pick up some time lost to the drop.
Reserve days are much tougher and more dependent on Required v Available. You’ll hear black days (bad) and blue days (good). PBS is your friend if you’re trying to minimize commutes. PBS can build you long continuous stretches of days that aren’t FAR compliant. Once the month begins any X day swaps/drops are subject to reserve coverage and FAR limits, among other PWA restrictions. Long story short, if you can avoid getting unstacked you’re most likely to keep your commuted to two (or less) if you get it right in the initial PBS award. Check out the “pattern” command which may help you achieve what you want even if you are unstacked.
