320B assigned NYC for a few months before transferring out. Looks like a crash pad will be necessary, anyone have any recommendations for a 320B in NYC? Any to avoid? I understand the 320 can have pairings out if all 3 NYC bases.

I’d probably look for something close to LGA. I’ve been on the fleet 9 months and have flown once out of EWR by choice and a handful of JFK rotations. The bulk of the trips seem to be LGA. No specific crashpad recommendations but I’d look for something close to LGA…preferably walking distance.

I know of a place in Kew Gardens. Quiet, usually have the place to yourself. Half way between JFK and LGA. Message me if you are interested.

Property tax and general housing cost. Looking at $20k/year in property tax, $40k closing costs. That gets passable to decent schools and an older home about 1h no traffic from LGA. The same house would be half the price, closer to the airport, $5k in taxes, negligible closing costs with better schools in other parts of the country.

I live in the 1 hour no traffic range to LGA. We do have good schools here. You just need to be willing to pay for them. I never understand why people in a multi-million dollar career attempt to try to base where they live on getting their kid educated (indoctrinated?) by the government for free.
The whole premise of all that nonsense anyway is supposedly to get into a "good college" but no one cares where anyone gets a Bachelor's Degree from except maybe a very few specific career paths. Paying outrageously inflated "good school" prices and taxes for over a decade to outsource the obsolete concept of "college prep" to mostly political brainwashing anyway is just silly. But if I was in real estate I'd be more than happy to get my 6% of that grift.

Whats a good area to look into for apartments in the New York/jersey area? Never lived out north east , seen some recommend morristown in New Jersey? Married no kids, just would like to be able to live comfortabley while on reserve callout for all 3 airports. Would have a car for transportation. Thanks.

Short call is promptly available to an airport of your choosing in NYC.
When we were considering moving up here i used a website to draw 2 hour driving time maps from each airport.
There's no written promptly available means x time but 2-1/2 hours notification to airport seens to be acceptable.
And that's to the closest airport.
Keep in kind for long call, as long as you get 12 hour notice (10 in a couple instances) you afe expected on time at the assigned airport.
But short call is the most restrictive and is where most pick locations off of.
"Sit short call on my couch" is basically my criteria for moving somewhere unless there's a much better reason.
Long call at home and commute in for short call is my current status. Im about 5.5 hours home to EWR and 6.5 to JFK/LGA.

Morristown is really nice. Has a small town feel and is pretty close to EWR. From what I've seen the rent prices are a lot more reasonable than in the city, but you'll even that out with a much longer drive to JFK. And depending on the time of day, traffic getting over the bridge can be murder. If you're going to live out there, always plan an extra hour (at least) on top of what Google maps says until you get the swing of things. Every then, traffic is unpredictable, and one wreck can really mess up your timing.
