Default Crashpad

Hey all, just finishing training NYC 73N guy until March. I’ve read through all the comments and found a few Crashpad ones. Seems Kew is the place to get a pad? And advice on the Crashpad side of things is appreciated! Probably shouldn’t have waited until in 2 weeks away from starting my commute 😬

NYC73B NH questions - How successful are people able to drop a trip/stretch of reserve days per month? I've looked at the PBS results for NOV but it only tells so much. Seems like a new hire would be close to a line right away - any trips start/end with a deadhead from the west coast? I am dreading this transcon commute and time zone change, so thinking if I only have to do it twice a month it will be doable till I can bid out.

You may get more responses if you try asking in a thread that isn’t pinned for transportation advice in NYC.

I would look at the reserve grid on iCrew though, that’ll give you an idea of what level of bad the reserve coverage is.

Several options for getting rid of a trip: PD, APD (only 1 per year), posting on Pilot to Pilot swap board (most useful if you’re offering short and/or good trips). If you are successful at dumping your trips you may be able to out of base White slip (OOBWS) trips closer to home. I’m assuming SEA, LAX or SLC would be better for you. That was you can pick up some time lost to the drop.

Reserve days are much tougher and more dependent on Required v Available. You’ll hear black days (bad) and blue days (good). PBS is your friend if you’re trying to minimize commutes. PBS can build you long continuous stretches of days that aren’t FAR compliant. Once the month begins any X day swaps/drops are subject to reserve coverage and FAR limits, among other PWA restrictions. Long story short, if you can avoid getting unstacked you’re most likely to keep your commuted to two (or less) if you get it right in the initial PBS award. Check out the “pattern” command which may help you achieve what you want even if you are unstacked.

Air Train 1.5 miles to connect La Guardia to NYC subway and LIRR. 2015 for $450 million.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirTrain_LaGuardia

Oh wait. Scratch that. Cost overruns put it in the $2.4 billion range so far, and a total of $7 billion over 12 years to complete led to the project officially being scrapped today. March 13 2023.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/13/n...-airtrain.html (paywalled, but enough there to get the gist)

Good news is this pinned thread remains as viable as ever. APC for the win.

(A real shame, NYC and LGA really could use this. Alas.)

Any place near JFK offer discounts for parking?
Going on a personal trip w/ family. I’ll probably just end up parking at Lefferts long term lot, but was curious if there were any spots that offer a discount. Called the Hyatt and they said nope.
TIA

I use the Way App for airport parking, check out way.com, or just download the app from the App Store. It has lots of parking options, decent discounts at all major airports.
