To be clear, that was the only time it was for my mortgage. Just a couple other random CC payments that I forgot to make before deploying (usually pay them off monthly). Maybe 2 instances in last 7 yrs.

As far as reporting your driving record goes, do you need to only go back 10 years or for your entire life ?

Read XXXX The City of Woodstock GA Police Dept. Re: moral conduct. One of the defendants is a Delta Pilot. Same Delta pilot sued the boat brokrr that sold the pilot and his wife a 60' yacht, wife refused to take part on that litigation! Pilot sued woman that designed his web page for his home based business. He even helped his girlfriend get a stalking restraining order again at his wife after HE assaulted his wife and crippled her while she was suffering from cancer. This is just the beginning, he's still flying, oh, he also filed for disability, still flying for Delta. I'm not sure how much is actually done on the background checks...

Once you're off probation at a union airline (or any other union job), it's going to be VERY hard to fire you for conduct which occurred outside of work. That's why they try so hard with background checks, psych tests, etc.

Usually with airlines, they only get to fire you when the conduct results in a lot of unauthorized absence due to prison or not making bail.

I recall a USPS mail carrier who had to go to prison for child molesting. He had some union leave provision so he got his job back when he got out. IIRC the USPS then tried to fire him based on the fact that he wasn't allowed near kids, schools, playgrounds, etc so could not do the route he was assigned. He someone got that overturned, apparently they had to adjust his route to "accommodate" his "needs". Something like that.

Background checks domestic violence
One would only hope that a background check would reveal a pilot has filed for disability considering the Social Security Administration is federal agency. How can a pilot justify a disability application and continue flying? You're fit to fly or you're not, when you self state you are disabled and cannot fly, but continue flying while your SSA application is being processed are you considered a risk to innocent passengers? This pilot works for Delta and was named in a previous post on this thread, he's a co-defendant with the City of Woodstock Georgia Police Dept., he assaulted his wife, and his wife suffered numerous civil rights violations when he conspired with local law enforcement to cause her harm. Read the case filed in the Federal Court, Northern District of Georgia.

Depends. You can in fact have a legit disability and still fly. Example might be a prosthetic leg from the knee down.

You could presumably still get disability benefits related to medical care in that case.

Also VA "disability" is a misnomer, a VA rating has nothing to do with your employment status, it's more like compensation for pain and inconvenience.

But your medical data is protected by HIPA, that's one of the very few things which a background check should NOT be able to find. A background checker would commit a federal felony by even accessing such records. The FAA, as a federal agency, can access other federal records for official purposes, and a pilot's health is their official business.
