Quote: You can't sign up to play for the Yankees and then complain about having to wear pinstripes and having to shave.

All signs point to Delta paying us appropriately soon. If that does happen, I hope strict adherence to hat and double breasted jacket returns. Call me old skool, but I like the iconic Delta uniform and strongly believe it's a big part of the Brand.

I'm not playing for the Yankees. And the Yankees dress code is equally as silly. There are far more successful franchises in the last few decades that don't need short hair and no beards.

The vast majority of passengers can’t identify a pilot by the uniform. Of those that can, only a fraction care what we wear or like the WW2 ship Capt look.
If the vast majority can’t identify a Delta pilot by the uniform, how can it be so important to the Delta brand?

I realize it’s a uniform and not a suit, but it looks more like a costume. Uniforms change! Look at the military, sports teams, law enforcement, etc.

Yes, I will wear it and knew I was going to wear it when I applied. The contract outweighed the silliness of our costume and that’s why I applied. We are changing things in the contact, why can’t we change other things for the better?

I agree with Trip here, y’all signed up to play here knowing the Delta uniform standard. As far as changing it, you might want to, but the man paying the bills isn't going to relent.

So the flight attendants always piggy back on our stuff.

How about we piggy back on them having uniforms not designed before any of us on the seniority list were born. (and no, I don't consider the new ones to be a new design, just the illusion of one)

This photo is from 1947. The pilot uniform is still the same.

The Flight Attendant probably still works here and bumped me off my commute home today.

Two things jumped out at me.
1) Those buttons need more brass. Maybe whatever their 2 stripe position radio operator, navigator, engineer didn’t get the full Admiral look
2) Passengers today would just love the dead animal attire. I can just see the reactions of the aisle passengers as her scarf’s head bumped into them.

I’m glad uniforms can change, and I hope ours do before I retire

I'm holding out for a vegan wool option.

If the hat brought Delta any additional revenue, then every other airline in the industry would mandate them tomorrow.

The “Brand” argument falls flat when a customer can buy a ticket on “Delta” and fly on an RJ flown by pilots who don’t wear hats, then connect to a codeshare partner flown by more pilots who don’t wear hats.

Solution to the jacket dilemma:

PBS bid line #1:

Award rotations w/ destination in Mexico, the Caribbean, Central/Latin America, Hawaii, Africa, South America, Southeast Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, Middle East, India or Micronesia.

Else Start Next

Problem solved.

Quote: Ah the old short sleeve and polyester tie …
the classic high school shop teacher look.

either go short sleeve no tie.
or long sleeve with tie and jacket.

anything between is tacky.

(and I vote for a fireproof onsie)
Again, we don’t wear a suit to work. Suit rules don’t apply.

Long sleeves with epaulets looks absolutely silly.
