Delta execs to meet with Northwest pilots

Delta executives plan to meet with Northwest pilots

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Two high-ranking Delta Air Lines Inc. executives are expected to meet with Northwest pilots.
Delta and Northwest Airlines Corp. are planning to combine, but want their pilots to agree to a deal, too.
The Northwest pilot's union say Delta President and Chief Financial Officer Ed Bastian and Delta's head of human relations Mike Campbell will visit their union meeting later Thursday in St. Paul to make a presentation and answer questions. The meeting will be closed to the public and to pilots who are not on the union's Master Executive Council. Northwest pilots have said they want raises to make their pay equal to Delta pilots. But Northwest pilots claim that Delta management wants to phase in the raises slowly.

Somehow I don't think there will be a lot of backslappin' and "How ya doin' buddy" going on in that room.....

Ya never know. Maybe once they meet in person, they'll see that getting labor peace and everyone pulling on the same side of the rope is a good thing.

Ahahahahahahahhaha! Nah!

They are doing this so that we can all get this done quickly. Now Delta's management have a real motivation. They are strapped over a barrel. The sooner they get this done, the sooner they can announce massive layoffs.
Any one have a educated guess on how many of us are going to get the ax?

You're probably right there. If DAL management tries to make any kind of case about "phasing in" former NWA pilot pay over a "period" of time, they best have a quick escape route.

Heyas ACL,

I think you're right. See my post over at FI...

See mine too.
I am not sure how many they will let go. It will take over 500 here at DAL to get to me. I will make it past the first round.

Any word on what was said at the meeting?

ACL,

As someone who was furloughed for a long time, I think you are panicking a bit. Just yesterday Bastian said they will trim a little more but do not expect to furlough anyone. If NWA makes big cuts now, it does not affect DAL pilots (yet). It will be a year+ before we have a joint contract and list and start bidding accordingly. And do I believe Bastian? Well, this management group has GENERALLY been pretty forthcoming and honest...so until they give me a serious reason to disregard them, I'll take what they say at face value. In a recent press release on our traffic numbers they say they expect a strong summer and should make our financial targets this year. We should break even or be slightly profitable.

UALs situation is scary but is not the same as ours...Tilton had no backup plan outside of merging. I have family at UAL and our two companies could not be more different after CH 11 emergence. We have been cutting domestic since 2005 and we are receiving airplanes this year and next that will offset the reductions/aircraft parking. I do not believe we will furlough. If oil goes north of $150 who knows, but right now I don't think there is any reason to be worried about it.

CALs scenario is a little worse than ours with losing 30ish net aircraft over the next year and a half. That is a long time to work out staffing scenarios...I would expect their furloughs to be MINIMAL if any at all.

AMRs situation is not the same as ours...they have a high cost structure vs. their revenue that has to be worked out.

The sky might be cracked, but its not falling. UAL is in very bad shape financially so they had to do something drastic. Will it work..who knows? For my friends and family there I sure hope so. Hopefully they'll get better management soon. Tilton needs to pack his parachute if you ask me.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Back to your regularly scheduled bickering...

And for what its worth, I think DAL had better give you guys Parity from DAY 1 also....any Joint Contract that "phases in" NWA pilots gets a NO vote from me. Think what you want of us "greedy" DAL pilots but I feel very strongly that'd be a non-starter from our end also.

Good post, Flare. I agree.

Me too, I have been in panic mode to being an NWA newbie. I know as for now I am in a different boat then the DAL newbies, heck maybe a different ocean, nontheless I too am hoping for a joint contract date of signing. As for the meeting there was an agreement for no one to talk about what went on behind closed doors. Stay tuned...
