The last time you used a razor on your last flight should be the last time a razor touches your face. So basically it starts growing when you show for your last flight.

My reserve beard is more of a reserve goatee. The beard is fine for a few days, but then starts to get itchy (I guess I'm not Duck Dynasty material). The reserve goatee doesn't itch. I start as soon as I shave for my final leg of my last trip.

As an aside, I don't know (based on RA's comments) how Unical can blacken the skies with heavy metal without imploding.
