Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Thanks again to Nerds of APC. That was great and I enjoyed replies on the different ways to skin the preverbal windows cat. Chuck416, I am going the other way, from Super Premium International to the short bus and I am sure that I will be having my adjustment period also.

When the media froths about piloting and suggests that, when in trouble, our first reaction is to scream Mayday over the radio like some B movie... along comes Sully to set them straight. How lucky are we to have this guy as a faceman for our profession?

I thought the whole point was to get a device with GPS so it could have moving map with a real-time weather overlay...and keep track of us (sign us in automatically, etc). I wasn't a huge fan of that feature, but SD hyped it a while back.
So the guy in 2C and wifi will always have more actionable weather info than we will. Sweet.
Will this device be able to receive flight plans, etc? Would be nice to get away from the colossal waste of paper.
Initially no GPS, no moving map, no turbulence or weather overlay. On the last revision of the Jepp FD Pro it did have taxi-chart upon landing and moving map for taxiing (iPad). There are on 5 Surface 2's with current info on them. AirWatch is unable to update the Surface at this point. All these add-on's are on the wish list but I don't think any other carriers are using them either. The Bad-Elf is pretty cool and the Stratus (ADS-B and free weather overlay) are pretty slick but currently not certified for us.
Wow.

What a waste. Just looked at my neighbors brand new iPad air 16 G tablet issued by usairways/American. GPS and moving map. Especially useful on the ground as you can also highlight your taxi route on the 10-9 with your jet superimposed on it
Microsoft Surface?!?!??
No way they'd spend that kind of coin on a bunch of high paid union types. FA's maybe.
Nope, we waited until we found someone who'd pay us to use their tablets.

You see all that growth in SEA?
You like growth?
You like new hires?
You want more growth?
You want some more A330's, maybe some 717's on the west coast?
You'll learn to like the Surface...

Now, shut up and row! Richard's got to get paid!
I think we'll see the turb, wx, moving map, flt plan and some other cool things. Jepp has it but DAL isn't even begun the testing phase yet. Actually we're doing something nobody else is doing... introducing 2 different devices at the same time and doing dual certificate testing. I think the add-on's layer on too much complexity to the initial testing. In actuality, there are several airlines very excited to move to the Microsoft system and Windows 8. For a corporation, it's much easier to support one OS than several different (just look at how amicable DAL is to MAC users--I can't even get Safari to load DL NET). Once the test is over and all the fleets move to the Surface, I suspect the add-on's will be turned on (maybe not all at once though).
The Surface was the price we had to pay, to win Microsoft as our biggest corporate client.
