Quick question....
Anyone who has converted to a new category lately remember how much notice you were given before officially starting training?
I've seen my projected training date, but was just curious as to how early I could expect to get the official training schedule. I'd figure at least a month or so, but not sure.

So according to some I have to check my schedule by 3pm the day before I start reserve even though you can't be required to check it, you're supposed to check it.
What if the day before I am gone to the mountains til 10pm? No way to check.

Is that their Rebel IPA? If so, I did a taste test about two weeks ago, vs. the Torpedo. I poured the two, side by side, and then sipped them, alternating one sip of each until they were gone.
The Torpedo was just a tiny bit hoppier, and it is 7.2%, vs. the Rebel IPA, which poured a shade lighter, was very good, smooth, and 6.5%. If I can't find Torpedo, I'll buy the Rebel. But if they are both on the shelf, at the same price, I'll get the Torpedo.

Check it before 2am base time.
PWA 23.S.1.d.2
S. Reserve Pilots
1. A reserve pilot will:
d. be required to check his schedule via DBMS or VRU:Exception one: If such last non-fly day ends at a time other than 2400, the pilot will check his schedule no later than two hours after the end of such non-fly day.
Exception two: For purposes of Section 23 S 1. d. 2), a non-fly day will not include a day on which the pilot is on vacation.
S. Reserve Pilots
1. A reserve pilot will:
d. be required to check his schedule via DBMS or VRU:
1) after block-in of the last flight segment of his rotation prior to his release (see Section 12 G. 13. – 14.), and
2) no later than 0200 base time on his first on-call day following a non-fly day, so as to be able to acknowledge:
a) any assignment no later than three hours before a scheduled report of the rotation or start of a short call period, or
b) the start of a rest period.
Exception two: For purposes of Section 23 S 1. d. 2), a non-fly day will not include a day on which the pilot is on vacation.
Follow the contract to the best of your understanding and within the confines of PWA language. When in doubt, call 1-800-USA-ALPA or email [email protected].
That is what you MUST do. Anything prior to that requirement is at your discretion. The requirements of FAR 117 are more restrictive than this and the Company is required to comply with BOTH, not disregard the PWA. The list of pilots who will be part of the group grievance (or get paid as a result of an LOA as part of negotiations) is growing.

I think we'll see the turb, wx, moving map, flt plan and some other cool things. Jepp has it but DAL isn't even begun the testing phase yet. Actually we're doing something nobody else is doing... introducing 2 different devices at the same time and doing dual certificate testing. I think the add-on's layer on too much complexity to the initial testing. In actuality, there are several airlines very excited to move to the Microsoft system and Windows 8. For a corporation, it's much easier to support one OS than several different (just look at how amicable DAL is to MAC users--I can't even get Safari to load DL NET). Once the test is over and all the fleets move to the Surface, I suspect the add-on's will be turned on (maybe not all at once though).

Yes, an iPad, a Surface 2 and even my hooptie it up Android have these capabilities of the box.
The non LTE Surface 2 lacks an onboard GPS. We will see if the FAA makes them turn off GEO Referencing (aka moving map) inside the Jepp software. If they leave the software functional then a moving map will be as easy as buying a GPS receiver and turning it on 😁
