When you look at this from the perspective of how long it has been available to pilots in Cesssna 172s and our passenger, the fact that ALPA gave no effort to accomplish this very simple task to improve safety. Prevent injuries and/or fatalities.
That is a big failure, IMO.
I was flying the 747-400 from Osaka to Honolulu at night flight level 350. Topped a thunderstorm. UAL flew right into it at flight level 310, killing one passenger and injuring many. In my opinion, having access to this technology would prevent these types of incidents where it is available.
If this was your child who died, would you have wished the pilots had access to the data that is so easily available? Assuming internet access.

Having a big picture view of weather would be nice. No doubt. But to call it a failure of ALPA to mandate it is a huge stretch.
Give me a list of other pilot unions that have placed it in their top 10 of things pilots should have. As an active DPA recruiter, can you tell me where has DPA ranked it?

And if one engine quits, the FADECs automatically shut down the other engine... automatically. That's the dirty secret about the Miracle on Hudson, only one engine shut down after it hit birds (if it hit any at all, more than likely it was just another Airbus computer failure) but the other is programmed to automatically join it.

I second ExAF's suggestion of using Dropbox. I'm not sure what the Android interface is like, but I'd imagine it's similar to my iOS app. There is an option to automatically upload all your photos each time you launch the app. Very quick and simple. Your photos are easily accessed from any web-enabled device. Once they're uploaded you may delete them from your device and they remain in the cloud.

Lol, how do we do V1 cuts then? Stay away from bidding Airbus, pilots have no control.

all kidding aside, on an ALPA meet and greet in the crew room a few years ago there was a guy saying just that. He walked up to the ALPA guy who said in so many words "so is there anything you want us to be looking at?" "Yeah, get rid of the Airbuses." The ALPA guy was like
And then later he told his friend that whole engine shutdown sequence at a volume, and this is why I even mention it, that was intended to be heard by everyone. His friend looked embarrassed.

As mentioned the delay inherent in the system makes it unusable for tstorm avoidance. It's a big picture planning tool. It also works off ground based radar so it's not available over the pacific. ADSB or geo satellites relay the data so for the most part it works only over or near the US. It would not have made any difference over the Pacific.
