2. If my original schedule had adequate rest but due to delays I will violate the 30 in 168 rule, will scheduling figure this out on their own or do I need to call in?
Thanks

Overspeed, thanks for your reply.
Not sure if I'm saying the same thing as you, but I decided to call DALPA to double check and see how DAL would handle this. According to scheduling at DALPA, DAL adds 30 minutes to my block-in for "debrief" before they consider me on rest. This is good since I blocked in from a 4-day trip 30 hours and 27 minutes prior to a 5 day trip (thanks for the 15 minutes sitting at the gate with no marshallers JFK!). With the extra 30 minutes I now only have 29:57 rest going into my 5 day trip, so on day 3 I turn into a pumpkin.
Now, what DAL will do with me over the holiday weekend is beyond my guess. I have the sneaking suspicion that this won't turn out to be the awesome deal I momentarily thought I might get. The schedule works perfectly to let me just catch up on day 2 which means instead of per diem and a hotel on day 1 I will get a no-expenses bonus day in my crash pad
