Agreed. It is not the way to do this. The only way I see them doing this is if they are trying to do it to the 765.
Also heard the FAA is leaning towards NOT certifying the new A330 pilot rest facility. Seems they don't like the idea of the Captain in the tail of the aircraft either...

Hope this one is true and they have to put a bunk room forward of Door 2.

US Airways pilots union says slot swap deal with Delta Air Lines could lead to higher fares

    • ATLANTA (AP) -- US Airways' pilots union says it is concerned a deal with Delta Air Lines to swap takeoff and landing slots could lead to higher fares and a reduction in service to smaller communities.
The US Airline Pilots Association said Monday it sent a letter to the Justice Department seeking a full investigation on the impact of the proposed transaction between US Airways and Delta at New York's LaGuardia and Washington's Reagan National airports.
In August, US Airways said it had agreed to transfer 125 operating slot pairs to Delta at LaGuardia. In exchange, Delta agreed to transfer 42 operating slot pairs to US Airways at Reagan National.
Slots, especially at peak times of day and in busy corridors like the Northeast, are valuable to airlines.
This is funny coming from the USAPA clowns!
They're worried about higher fees? God forbid you charge what the darn ticket is worth!
No wonder these morons are in such disaray!
Quote: Hearing rumblings of an agreement with the MEC re SLC/MSP swap that would reduce training by only allowing ppl presently qualified on the aircraft to bid the new slots. Just a rumor...
No such agreement asked for by the company or considered by the union. That type of agreement would completely redefine the entire system of awarding vacancies and would never fly.

Didn't they move part of a base previously? (MD-11 out west)

They have certified other aircraft including Delta MD-11's with the facility in the tail.

They have moved aircraft bases many times or opened new ones. There has never been a restriction on who could bid those slots. They have the capacity to do the required training. Its not really that big of a deal. The biggest cost in a training department is fixed. Delta has already made the investment in lots of sims and facilities for those sims. The only aircraft lacking is the A330. If they were to ask for something like that the A330 to Atlanta would be where they would want it. Still they have not asked and know it would be a dead issue.
If it were ever to even be considered they would have to pay protect all the pilots who bid that aircraft and were denied it out of seniority. I suspect those costs would far exceed the training costs.

Line rumors are fun. In any case just because its been done by the FAA before, doesn't mean it will be done again in a post AF crash world.

If it happened it would be the first fNWA aircraft to have a pilot rest facility aft of door 2 in the last 25 years. Maybe a first in the history of fNWA, but I wasnt here before the 747/DC-10.

Waiting for the stupid orientation videos to download is giving me lots of time to post here between sections.

They don't give a rat's rear end about higher fares. They're just watching LCC management burn furniture, and they're scrambling every which way to stop it. E-190's being sold, losing LGA slots, aircraft deferrals, etc. My guess is they won't have a lot of $$$ to spend on this consdering the whole seniority integration fiasco.

Just curious. I remember the condo and the coffin. When was this? Was it certified but never used? It certainly must have been pre-911. Thanks,

Denny
