I don't know how this AE stuff works. 340 guys or so will be displaced from the -9 because the slots are going away. Now, do they got to their AE preference or their MD preference? Do you need to list upgrades (like 744 A) on your MD list in order to have a shot at it? DAL-S guys?
In 99% of situations you are better off with a MD. You can "force" yourself anywhere your seniority can hold, whether or not there are any openings listed and you do not incur a seat lock.
So if you know for sure that you are getting displaced you should go with a MD.
For example, if you are at the bottom of the MEM 320 FO list you should have a MD in. Even if MEM is not listed, guys who are displaced from MSP can "force" themselves into your category and the bottom guys could get spit out.
Bottom Line - If you are in a categoty getting displaced, or close to the bottom in any category - Put in your MD choices!!!!

Thanks Scambo. It does kind of suck. We just went from having a 100 seater to a having a 124 seater (A-319) as being the smallest thing we fly.
For me personally, I wonder if I get displaced to the MD-90 in MSP then decide that MSP is waaay to cold and too far away for me, or I'm just getting too junior: Do I incur a freeze of any kind if I bid NYC MD-88?
Summary: If I'm on the -90 and bid the -88, do I get a freeze?

Thanks. You just took all of the angst out of my bid.
I was slightly wrong, it's the next lower position, not by pay.
Can't stress enough, Bid what you really want!!!
I was a new hire into the ER in NYC, When my first AE came out they only showed 10 slots open for ATL-ER. I bid it and they allowed an additional 25 slots, so I got it and I was the plug. I loved it. If you can't be first, be last!!!
Unless we are talking football. War Eagle!!

I don't know if everyone knows but there is a great explanation of the Advance Entitlement/Displacement bid process put out by the Transition Working Group. It's TWG notepad 9-18 and can be accessed thru the DALPA website. Go to the Merger page and on the left side select the "TWG notepad" link then go to page 2 of the notepads. It's listed there and it's called "Filling of Vacancies." It should answer alot of questions.
It's too long to post here but I downloaded it so if anyone wants me to email it to them, send me a PM.

Any intelligent guesses on what the most junior base and equipment type is going to be after this shake up?
I think I'll have firsthand knowledge of this soon enough . . .
