Quote: Ya' know, the problem with the argument "you don't HAVE to travel on an airplane" is, it's not too far a stretch until you're at the "you don't HAVE to walk down the sidewalk/leave your house" argument. Where, exactly, do you draw the line (of reason) of the "you don't have to...." at? I know I don't "have to" go to work. Heck, I don't have to draw the next breath....unless I choose to. I guess my libertarian bias is showing (again).

Chuck, I'm with you. The whole thing is a slippery slope. Individual freedoms have, and will continue to be, gradually whittled away bit-by-bit until you get what we now have (and worse). This is what the framers of the Constitution ran away from 300 years ago...they'd puke if they saw today what we consider to be "liberty". I don't consider it libertarian "bias" if it's true.
Quote: My original question was to Chuck regarding the passengers who willingly submit to it. My question was to this:

I agree with you and there are many other points that we could agree upon with our case for not undergoing this hassle.
Ok. I'm sorry. I thought we were talking about pilots. That's what I get for not reading the entire flow of the conversation. 10,000 apologies.

Sounds to me like you are more of an anarchist than a libertarian.
Quote: Its been covered before but there is little chance of success. The company is not going to give out pay free pay raises to the pilot group not spelled out in the contract. In fact its doubtful the company would even meet to discuss the issue. Any changes will have to come with the new contract 4 or 5 years from now.
The only chance to effect a chance would be if the company got in a bind with a operational need that conflicts with the current contract. If that were to occur then they might be willing to trade the pay rates. That is also somewhat unlikely as most of those type issues have been worked out and it would have to be something with a like dollar value.
For the most part I agree with all that. The only exception may be a good will gesture ("see, we really are kindler, gentler managers looking to 'unleash the DNA of Delta' and see how well we play together...oh while I got you here, how bout outsourcing those 190s to CHQ/CPZ...")

But aside from that, the only realistic way to get that will probably be some sort of trade off. Seeing as how we are in an only slightly modified bankruptcy emergency survival contract (despite record profits and all that jazz) I doubt anyone sees much if anything in the current book that is worth granting "relief" on. While its dumb to choke the golden goose til it gives us every last egg, no one disputes that the whole thing needs to go up significantly, and there just aren't any areas to go the other way.

This. Plus the absolute crushing total tax burden, central banker funny money, globalist nation building and loss of national sovereignty would make even the most ardent (at the time) Hamiltonian Federalist vomit from spinning in their graves so much.
Quote: Heck. How "many" of ANY group have been caught with a bomb, or any other device, WITH the intention to engage in terrorism?
So it is ok to have a bomb on board, as long as you don't intend to engage in terrorism?

Quote: AND, I ask, WHEN is the trial for those folks....(silence...) O.K. Once in a while they do catch somebody who has a gun mistakenly left/packed in their carry on baggage (which is a whole 'nother topic). Last I saw, there were like less than a hundred a month, nation wide--out of HOW MANY total passengers??? And even then, I don't know of even one person who has been prosecuted for that. Charged, yes. Prosecuted. Never heard of it happening. But even then, in those cases, there is no evidence of any terror connections, which is the entire purpose (supposedly) of the TSA. Man, the whole thing seems like a shake-down.
Chuck
So what amount of violence/death/terrorism is acceptable in the aviation industry? How many thugs on board with guns would be ok? Would it matter if they were members of the same gang vs different gangs? Does it vary by major/regional/cargo?

The entire purpose of TSA is not terrorism, it is security of the transportation system for travel and commerce.

I don't really want to talk about security or the TSA anymore, I want to hear some good rumors about hiring and profit sharing for Delta pilots. Oh, and don't forget those cheerleader pictures.
Quote: How about a round of applause to crew resources for waiting until the absolute last possible moment to schedule training for bid that was awarded 6 months ago!

No, I didn't have anything that I needed to plan for.
I'm in your situation. I'm waiting for a MD-88 class. I still have nothing scheduled. Where do I look? I've checked ICrew and PBS calender. Is there somewhere else to look? It would be nice to be able to plan my holiday season. Do you actually have a class date assigned to you?
Does anyone know what happens to a carry-in trip that finishes on your conversion date? ie. I convert and have a trip that ends, on 01DEC. Does that trip get dropped? Do they drop the last day and DH me home on the 30th? Do they take the whole trip and positive space me to OGG?

Good question my friend... I've got the same thing going on Dec 1. Maybe one of the contract gurus will shed some light on it?

The sim schedules on the crew resources page looks out two months. That is a good place to look. Also, if you call crew resources they will tell you where they are at. I spoke with them a few days ago and they said I definitely am benched for December and she was not sure about January, call in two weeks.
