Quote: I don't think you actually have to land at another airport at all - just have wandered more than 50 NM from the departure airport before returning. My understanding is this is to accomodate military pilots who fly U2/spy aircraft and return to the original destination.
Due to the "except as provided by blah blah blah" item I would tend to agree. Another one of those marvelous gray areas...

Compass is taking application aswell, and Capeair is hiring 500TT out of MN I believe.

Quote: For the ATP there is no requirement to have LANDED 50 miles away. Just to have landed somewhere other than where you left from and at some point have wandered at least 50 miles away.

There's probably no help to the jump and banner pilots here; but it may help some of the CFIs see that they're not quite as far from that 500 miles for the ATP as they thought they were.
I am aware that for an ATP it doesn't require you to land somewhere 50 nm but here's my point when it comes to primary students. Most of your flights are within a defined practice area that you want the student to become familiar with (gnd reference points, frequencies, local airspace, etc.). If you fly 50NM away while in the midst of steep turns, slow flight, stalls, etc what are you teaching the student. They probably have no idea where they are and in their eyes it appears you are doing the manuevers going one way without reason. Guess what they are going to do when they are out doing a solo local flight?

However if you are flying with a INS student, they don't really need to see whats on the ground b/c they have a hood on the entire flight. So in this type of situation you could do something along those lines.

Talk about a thread drift... Anybody who has submitted an application hear anything? Any we're looking for more qualified applicants emails?

I could be wrong, but I don't think you even have to land at a different airport to log ATP XC time- just have flown to a point in space that is more than 50nm from the departure. This way, bomber pilots can take off from and land at the same airport, but log XC time towards the ATP.

Part 135 XC is airport to airport (land at a different airport).

Here's how I did it during the 80's. Rent a plane and go fly. Fly more than 50 miles and even land or do a touch and go. Take a second CFI and fly under the hood, shoot approaches and fly holds. We would do it at night, so we could check that box too. Feeling flush, rent a twin that week.

When I did instrument instruction, I'd make up several mini flights that were at least 50 miles away. That would mean a 1/2 hour flight, shoot approaches at one or more airports and then fly back. I would do these after the inital approach work.

I had the same thank but not thanks. I have 3,330TT, almost 2000 in Part 121....Bla,Bla,Bla.....

The only thing they forgot to say on the qualifications is that you must to have an "Internal Recommendation"

The Compass thing is the same I was waiting for the interview dates in Oct, 2008. After then all thing happen and they put it on file since then I've been updating my profile but nothing yet. So I guess you need again "Internal Recommendation"

I got the the automated thanks, but no thanks email today. 1600TT with 100 CL-65. Oh well, pretty much wasn't expecting anything else. Not sure but they may be hesitant to hire people on furlough with another carrier. I made sure to note that I had about 275+ ahead of me before recall.

The search continues and the daily life/license gamble of CFI-ing continues...
