He's nobody. The fight needs to start with ALPA defending this captain to the hilt. Including bringing suit against the local cops and their jurisdiction for false arrest.

You mean the kind of shoot first and ask questions later method you've just used by believing the character of a man you've never met from second hand stories?
Did I say I have never met him? I have talked to many that have flown with him. This is a pretty close knit community and the oddballs are usually well known. I will say that his name has been mentioned more than once for being a 1,1 on the chart.

If you are so blinded to think that we have an infallible group of pilots then you are not reading the news or observing the other guys you work with. The industry is full of pilots that should not be behind the yoke of a jet. In this instance I think Rood's personality and entitlement attitude collided with a CSR that also probably has attitude and ego issues. The perfect storm of idiots brewing in a jetway. If Mr. Rood is so innocent then why was the agent not charged by the police and ONLY the Pilot?

My bet here is that you're not a real pilot,
Then can you explain to my family where I have been for 18 days this month? If you want to throw some money on that bet I am all game. How about $1K that you are wrong? Care to put your money where your ignorance is?

First and foremost, my intent in posting the opening narrative was not to "stir the hive" against the mentioned CSR. Regardless of the CSR, and Police Officer's "reported" actions, the point is the "Captain's Authority" appears to be completely disregarded in the case mentioned above. As I mentioned earlier, I was just hoping that ALL ALPA pilots would/will rally in support of this Captain. By what he did, via the reported narrative, was nothing more than wanting to take care of a fellow pilot who was wanting the professional curious of an off-line jumpseat.

There has been 'word' that this particular Captain was (or is) pushing for an Independent Union outside of ALPA in which to represent the UAL Pilot Group. If those facts are indeed true, that should have NO bearing on what degree ALPA 'goes to bat' for this Captain in protecting all of his legal rights.....especially such a pilot who is reported to be "in good standing" with his current Union, ALPA.

If this Captain is indeed "thinking outside the box" in trying to explore other options regarding representation for his pilot group, it should not be considered criminal or unique in today's industry. One needs to look no further than Delta Airlines. There are 'some' within DAL that are already supporting an active push to explore/launch independent representation with the "DPA" http://www.delta-pilots.org/ Thus this topic is not "foreign", or ground-breaking by any means.

As this industry has evolved over the last 10+ years, the lines by which ALPA has represented 'common' mainline v regional carrier's has become more and more, "less defined". If holding the line on topics such as SCOPE/JV mainline flying is something that independent representation will foster/bring to a Pilot Group such as UAL, then I'll be the first to be open minded in exploring other/independant avenues in future Union representation.

If nothing less, let's all keep in mind that we NEED to support this Captain. If we, the pilots don't take care of each other, it's already been proven that no one will.

Shouldn't his union defend him? Doesn't he pay dues?

That is what fills this story with irony. He forms UPA to oust ALPA and yet ALPA brings him in as grievance cmmte member after UPA dies. He throws a temper tantrum, is arrested and sent to jail. It isn't ALPA that bails him out out of the pokie. It is then DEN chief pilot. He could easily have left him there for ALPA to ride in on the unicorn and rescue him.

Appears he is getting paid what he bids to sit home each month while this plays out. So where is the hardship?

Reminds me of the Capt Smith that stopped in MIA to put the FA off. Have known him for years and he is certifiable. He got paid the entire time he was off and came back. Word on the street in FRA last week was that he has gotten himself into trouble again.

Lambourne, your comments about the captain's personality are COMPLETELY irrelevant.
Period.

So you were there on the jetway when it happened? You speak as if you were standing right beside him. Open your eyes Lambourne and leave the politics and personality out of the equation.

Actually thats quite simple. The agent made a charge. Let your wife call and tell the police you "hit" her.....your ****will be in jail in a new york minute! You dont have to prove it, only claim it. What I am suprised is, no cameras in the jetway??
