You are assuming the airplanes will be leased and that cash flow without the contract can't handle the lease payments. You are using a pax carrier business model in this situation.

When an airplane sits FedEx hires fewer pilots, the planes don't get used up and the part timers don't get extra hours. I don't think operating them at a loss is a likely scenario.

PAC contributions are used for gaining access to and supporting pilot friendly legislators to advance pilot friendly legislation, or oppose policies or legislation that will adversedly effect our careers/industry (Import/export bank- fatigue rules etc)

Except union dues/employees/equipment/resources may be used to support candidates and/or positions as long as membership education is the stated goal.

Or except when the law or legislation is ignored. Of course I'm sure that never happens.

Could someone explain the following scenarios and it's effect on FedEx and UPS staffing:

A. FedEx retains 100% of postal contract?

B. FedEx 70%/UPS 30%?

100% agree. Not trying to be a UPS doom and gloomier, but with regards to the postal contract (just like all other fantasies that UPS floats to get through peak), I don't see any scenario where UPS hires pilots anytime soon. The most recent system bid was indicative of that. The bid says to me that UPS future planning is to simply replace retiring captains and nothing else.

Cannot understand why anyone would apply here anyway, but I know they will. Its pays well, but I don't see any movement for many, many years. It's a very young airline, with very few retirements compared to other airlines that will be hiring soon.

It's been said that UPS was able to hire the best and most qualified during the last round. I'd have to say that the next group that they hire, I will wonder if those guys don't have a screw or two loose for applying here when they could go to United, Delta, FedEx, etc. The best days are behind for flying at UPS airlines.

Unbelievable to me that these jerks still have pilots on furlough.

I left Delta when the place was on fire in 2006. I'd go back and start over again at the bottom of their list if I could. Nothing good ever happens at this company, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they went back to contractors at some point. I will be interested to see what applicants they'd attract if, big if, they ever hire again. But the check clears on every other Saturday hoping for a captain bid somtime in the next 20 years. I say we get 4% of the USPS contract and they call it a win.

At least you have 20 years to upgrade before 65 ... or 70.

Just how long can upgrades ONLY cover attrition anyway ??? That's what I want to know.
