I hate to state it because it causes divisions but oh well. Commuters at UPS screw the non-commuters. This isn't a lifestyle conducive for commuting. I'd love more reports and shorter duty times even if it's more days.

Really? It's been that way since the beginning of commercial aviation and appears to work fairly well at every (other) airline out there. FedEx for example would have a devil of a time trying to position non-commuting crewmembers to the various out stations at the beginning of the work week. In fact, I doubt if they could do it at all, and as a result would have to either position some of them early, thereby increasing days away from home, or changing how their business is done. I suspect it would be even worse for UPS because as I remember, SDF isn't exactly ORD or ATL when it comes to available deadhead flight opportunities.

As for those pilots who choose to live out of domicile and have to work their time and energy in order to position themselves for their flights, I say it's their choice and you are off base in your comment about them screwing you. But that's just my opinion.

Working longer days on the backside of the click should be minimized and not extended. It's just not safe. We are all aging. It's just a fact our bodies don't do what they used to do.

Please don't EVER get involved with the IPA on any level.

You have no idea why people commute, not to mention all of the junior captains and FOs that have been bounced around from domicile to domicile. There are a myriad of reasons why people commute. Do I really need to name them?
I prefer long blocks of days off whether I'm living in domicile or not.
There are plenty of terrible base line trips for people like you that like to keep a bag packed. I'm glad you like them so others don't have to fly that crap.

Jesus Seinfeld, you sure do know how to drop the proverbial turd into the punch bowl...

Like many guys up in ANC that commute to work, I prefer to fly long blocks (12 day trips) for long blocks of time off. It seems that a lot of folks that live up in ANC like the same thing, because we have lines with 10 PVG turns (10 different report times), or many SDF turns that go untouched until the very junior pick them up in hopes of trip trading them (yeah, good luck with that).

I could bid back down to ONT now, and have a 90 minute drive to work, vice dealing with the ANC commute. The reason I won't do it is because of the horrible base line trips that I would probably get stuck with as a result. Your nirvana of more report times and shorter trips is my personal nightmare in hell.

So, how exactly do commuters screw non-commuters again?

BTLs are a result of non-commuters complaining about week long trips. I remember two captains who were quite vocal about this before our last contract.

Funny thing is, this pair don't touch BTLs today. They still fly week on and off. (They've stopped the *****ing though)

When has mgmt ever listen to ANY pilots "whining" about line construction? If you haven't figured out its move the freight and shut your trap, you haven't been around long enough.

The trip rig wouldn't allow that. Less work per day = same pay, less block.
