Looks like the Safe Skies Act might help our cause.

Maybe I missed it, but has anyone actually seen a published study of the impact of the proposed rules change? Could you point it out to us?

I have heard a lot of speculation and read an internal unpublished study and the results were mixed. There were some advantages and some disadvantages with both sets of rules. It didn't really offer a cure that some seem to think exists.

What do you expect out of the guy that said "you can keep your health insurance if you want to you" even though he knew it was false?

Expecting him to shoot straight is foolish.

Hey, if fatigue is that important, clearly trip rig will be on the table, as will max # days worked per month, plus hourly pay. UPS can make schedules very conducive to sleep science if that is the ultimate nogotiating priority for the IPA, but don't cry about never seeing your kids. This is no free lunch when it comes to running a business. More pilots and less productivity will ultimately translate to less pay and more reports per month over the long-term.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the "entitlement state" does not apply to the private sector, especially in a global market. Foreign carriers are salivating at the opportunity that the FAA has gifted them with 117. Did you hear about the Arab's recent $150B 777X order over the weekend? Do you think that has any relevance on the future of global cargo?

When will US pilot unions wake up to the global reality? My guess is when the US-based jobs dry up. And I can hear it now..."it was all management's fault."

Unless President Obama gets a vote ... if he does, it will be Bush's fault!

So using fatigue science = "entitlement state"?

please...

I can hear you blaming labor for all of our country's problems but guess what? It's not so in modern times. Corporate greed has been greatest threat for over 10 years and I see no sign of it slowing down.

They are the ones pulling our elected officials into the twisted shapes we now see.

Easy to blame corporate greed, labor greed or management greed.
Easy to blame gravity for plane crashes.

Ever think that we aren't doing all we can to strengthen our own economy?
Ever think we have oriented ourselves towards economic failure and destruction rather than creating an economy which rewards success?

I agree entirely, those things are always on the table. UPS (union) pilots lag the industry in minimum daily and trip rig. With industry peers paying a higher rig AND facing the expense of Part 117, it would be an uphill battle for UPS in mediated talks to advocate keeping us below industry standard (AS, DL, UA, AA) while both enjoying freedom from Part 117 and netting $1B per quarter. It's their fiduciary duty to try, we all understand, but my comfort in the eventual outcome lies not in blind adherence to the way things have always been, but merely the weakness of their hand.
