Quote: I'm starting SW new hire training in Jan and was looking to replace my black roller carry bag. The one I have used for the last 8 years of Corporate flying is pretty much shot. Is there one in particular that SW wants it's pilots to use or is there any SW discount for a particular type/brand? I appreciate any input.

I believe they still sell the luggage works brand in the uniform store at the training center. You can buy a fancy one with the SW logo if you want. There's no specific one you have to use but a lot of the larger ones won't fit in the storage space, especially on the classic aircraft.

Not really... Just make sure it's black. When you start training you can purchase a Luggage Works bag from the company uniform store which is just down the hall from your classroom. They are pretty good bags and you can payroll deduct them for $30 per check which is nice... Kinda like an interest free loan. They even come with a Southwest logo embroidered on them. The only thing is that they are very difficult to get under the Jumpseat in the classics. They are about 1/4" too wide and catch a bolt under the seat. They'll go in, but only with a lot of persuasion and swearing on your part. Other guys really like the Briggs & Riley bags and I think there is an airline discount for those, but I'm not sure how much or how to go about getting it. I came across a guy that had a Pelican case bag and I think that will be my next one.

Congratulations and enjoy training! Have fun!

Luggageworks gives a discount if you tell them your company and employee number. I think it was ten percent. The uniform store didn't have the Stealth Air bag and I don't really care for the SWA logo to be on my bag so I just got the plain black Stealth Air and a tote with the discount and free delivery. You have to call to get that deal.
Once you learn how to put your bag in the classic, it really isn't an issue. Just lift the back end and shove. 60 percent of the time it works every time. The newer bags don't have the side pocket that rips like the older ones. I am happy with mine, but I know some people don't like LW stuff.

Try putting the suitcase in handle first, wheels out in the classic.

I don't know why but For some reason that works like a charm.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I think I will just order one of those Costco Kirkland ones for about $99 . Seems like they have gotten pretty good reviews from some flight crew folks. I had looked into those 'purdy neat' ones with the metal frame but they are very heavy and cost over $300 each!

Appears to be one of the components of CJO. Where did you list the volunteer contact?

They are spendy but I've had mine for about 13 years. I've sent it in once for rebiuld, new zippers, etc which cost about $100 I think. I did have to McGyver a small rip with a needle and thread a few years back. Its still going. Good to hear I can get it on the 737 (its the shorter 737 model that LW sells). I start in Dec and I'm planning on getting a few more years out it. I've gotten my $300 out of it for sure.

What I need is a new flight case. Need something that fits well in the 737, fits my EFB and pilot kit + some snacks and not to big to commute with. What do y'all like?
