Southwest hiring info

Except for the 50+ who vouched for me with my letters of rec... And a couple of USAF Generals... And a SWA line check airman who gave me my ATP CHECK... And the interviewing FO and HR gal who TOLD me I did awesome on the interview panel?
Not putting ANYONE down... Merely stating facts.

2) Nice generalization about an 8,000 pilot airline based off your impression of the 5 other guys in your interview group.
3) You sound pretty awesome! I'm sure you did a great job transmitting that message during the interview. I'd guess the HR and FO were just being polite as you left the room. Wouldn't be very nice to tell you "thanks for coming in, but that was an awful interview."
4) I'm guessing your references shelled your chances since you "killed" the interview and have no skeletons. That's the last piece of the puzzle, so this is pretty basic process of elimination.
5) You're just the kind of guy Delta loves. Sounds like this is destiny.

Dude, that is most definitely a "put down".
If you do have a Delta job offer, I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't get many of the jobs that I interviewed for over the years, some I think I know why, and others I have no idea. Thankfully, I got the SW job offer and am looking forward to joining the team but even if I didn't get the SW offer, I still would have had a positive regard for the company, it's employees, and those that interviewed with me (hence, why would I even apply?). Win with class, and lose with class.. (carryover from my old Football days, but fits well in life).

Bottom line- the 50+ people that I know that work for SWA and wanted me hired to be part of the team (and I REALLY WANTED IT) are completely flabbergasted at my (and others like me) non-selection... Nobody can figure it out - even after multiple calls to those in HR and some CPs by the aforementioned current SWA pilots. All applicants be advised- as we all know, SWA doesn't follow the crowd... Do your best and hope for the best... I wouldn't change anything... And that is the weirdest part. If I went back in a year for the reattempt- I don't know what to do differently...

1) 50 letters of rec is FAR too many. Anyone with a lick of sense knows that.

Pretty sure every major/legacy airline has pilots that fit your definition of "unconfident" but that should never be confused with nervous or humble. For what it's worth, if I had to choose between the overly confident (or maybe even cocky) pilot, or someone who is skilled, yet humble and gets nervous in an important interview, I'd rather have my family flown by the latter.

No one that works at SWA would be "flabbergasted" that someone they recommended did not get a job offer, it happens all the time. Anyone that calls HR and CP's demanding answers as to why someone didn't get hired do NOT understand the process. Not everyone is cut out for SWA is just as valid an observation as not everyone wants to work for SWA. Good luck on your future endeavors.

A Ream Stack of Recs
https://hbr.org/2015/12/how-southwes...dicated-people
Many "good dudes" have not even received an interview even with stellar qualifications. One should be humbled at the opportunity.
Many "good dudes" have a bad day at the interview but still make it through because they display humility. One should never assume confidence will not be interpreted as cockiness. Give no one the opportunity to misinterpret your "confidence".
Many "good dudes" roll into the interview with internal recs and other job offers. One should act as if they have ZERO of either. (Side note: Holy cow 50 recs is complete overkill: End side note)
Many "good dudes" do not make it past the decision board. One should not validate the TBNT decision by being a Richard on internet posts...
or if one does, one should realize no amount of flag officers and a stack of internal recommends will outweigh being a complete Richard.
One who quote "kills" the interview most likely has a "dead" candidacy...and the only animals that don't sweat are pigs.
Just my 2 cents.
Remember--anyone could be your 51st rec...or the internal that will guarantee you are never hired--act accordingly to ensure the former.
Best of luck to all those still yearning to join the family. The process is frustrating but a testament to your character for those that endure.
