FedEx petitioned the NMB for mediation October 5, 2005. Prior to mediation, direct negotiations had been conducted for several months with the aid of an "outside facilitator." A Tentative Agreement was announced on August 27, 2006, and ratified on October 17, 2006.
1 year both times. The first resulted in release to self-help, the second resulted in our first negotiated contract.

Looks like we're in it for another year then, perhaps longer. Though I'm not that close to finishing my career here, if I was on the property 25 years, I think I'd cut the cord wishing all who remain a prosperous future and then say goodbye.
Any improvements to the contract will probably be fine but are hardly worth giving up a year of my life and time with family. There might be some pilots who were waiting around for a signing bonus or just an indication of when a TA might be forthcoming. With the company filing for mediation, contrary to their hope that doing so will accelerate the process, I'm not optimistic for a speedier conclusion to negotiations especially with company's desire for PIBS, and to "industry benchmark" our already decent retirement. Anyway, I'd be willing to bet that we'll see retirements accelerate in the next few months because, for some, this NMB delay will simply not be worth the wait.
We'll see.
