NMB mediation began in October, 1994, and continued until October, 1995, when ALPA rejected the NMB's proffer of arbitration. A cooling off-period began on October 26, 1995, and parties were then released to self-help on November 25, 1995. ALPA was replaced by FPA which inherited the "self-help" status. The first CBA for FedEx Express pilots was achieved in 1999.

FedEx petitioned the NMB for mediation October 5, 2005. Prior to mediation, direct negotiations had been conducted for several months with the aid of an "outside facilitator." A Tentative Agreement was announced on August 27, 2006, and ratified on October 17, 2006.

1 year both times. The first resulted in release to self-help, the second resulted in our first negotiated contract.

Best compensation

Although we no longer have the highest hourly rate, the entire package of pay remains the best in the industry. The ability to enhance line values, fly carryover when senior enough to hold it, make-up and volunteer without the limitations of a cap and bank, and the ability to sell back vacation put us ahead of other pilot groups.
Jack Lewis always said you couldn't compare us to Delta. But now it seems everyone does. Our hiring has gone that direction. Labor Relations looks to Delta for how to proceed in CBA discussions.

So where is the profit sharing proposal? Delta pilots got 8.26% for 2013 and will get 5% for 2014.

We should add that to the openers ASAP.

Talk about wanting to get a bargain.....Did anyone else notice the listed "benefits" that give us the "best compensation" package only apply to a small percentage of the most senior? What are they going to do when that comes out during mediation? Average pay per day of work is NOT going to look so pretty.

We actually had profit sharing before our first contract. Gave that up too a long time ago.

That change was before management wanted our benefits package and work rules to look like the rest of the industry. Just look at what management is asking. They want a total rewrite of the CBA! They can't cherry pick which parts they want to change if they want to make a valid comparison. Pay per day, Days worked per month, total compensation, it will all come out. And not just for the top 20%, all of us.

You have to include profit sharing when you make the claim we have the "best". Since we've had it before it's not nearly as radical as their proposals.

How can they gloss over the fact that they're asking us to buy into a notional PBS project? The code for it has not been written and it would be the most ambitious PBS attempt to date. When someone finally works on it no one really knows how it will turn out.

In fact, our last profit sharing check was held hostage to the TA vote. If we ratified the TA, we would get the profit sharing check. If we rejected it, The Company would keep it.

They took profit sharing away from the rest of the employees, too. I imagine the cost to The Company of giving us back profit sharing would be far too great in their eyes, because it would encourage other employees to demand the same, and encourage organizing. They don't want any more unions on the property, so they don't want to do anything to promote them.

Maybe they could explain their rationale to the NMB.

Another thing about that "Best Compensation" claim.

The most important of those conditions are only if they offer it to us under company defined conditions.

We typically are not offered vacation buyback or volunteer, even when we have record profits. During most of every year, carryover is severely reduced and line averages fall considerably. Passenger carriers that we "industry lead" don't allow their pay to fall as much as our CBA does.

So we have the opportunity to be the Best some of the time if the company decides. Never all of the time. Most often none of the time.

Doesn't sound much like Best does it?

Does the guy that wrote that actually work for us or is he a hired gun? Doesn't seem to know what's actually going on.
