The first CBA for FedEx Express pilots was achieved in 1999.

FedEx petitioned the NMB for mediation October 5, 2005. Prior to mediation, direct negotiations had been conducted for several months with the aid of an "outside facilitator." A Tentative Agreement was announced on August 27, 2006, and ratified on October 17, 2006.

1 year both times. The first resulted in release to self-help, the second resulted in our first negotiated contract.

.
Thanks, Tony.
Looks like we're in it for another year then, perhaps longer. Though I'm not that close to finishing my career here, if I was on the property 25 years, I think I'd cut the cord wishing all who remain a prosperous future and then say goodbye.
Any improvements to the contract will probably be fine but are hardly worth giving up a year of my life and time with family. There might be some pilots who were waiting around for a signing bonus or just an indication of when a TA might be forthcoming. With the company filing for mediation, contrary to their hope that doing so will accelerate the process, I'm not optimistic for a speedier conclusion to negotiations especially with company's desire for PIBS, and to "industry benchmark" our already decent retirement. Anyway, I'd be willing to bet that we'll see retirements accelerate in the next few months because, for some, this NMB delay will simply not be worth the wait.
We'll see.

Best pay and benefits in the industry... except when the company unilaterally imposes 4a2b...

That I will never forget!

Whistling past the graveyard. Wishing your life away. There is a seniority calculator on the union website…take a look. My guess is most guys will work until 64 and a 1/2, burning sick and disability off slowly and enjoying their vacation. Not trying to sound too morose here, but if you want things better we need to plan on facts not hope. Sitting around waiting for the 500 number seniority bump is an exercise in frustration. FYI…when the retirement age changed the mantra of those proposing the change was "62" was the expected average age folks would go out. That has not happened. I do not expect that it will in the future, either. We have averaged less than 100 retirements a year for a while, then it has bumped up to the 125-150 range. The charts show less than 100 a year for the next 2-3 years, then a modest uptick. Medical issues, deaths, and a few guys going at 60 (or earlier) may bump those up some, but the last few years have seen maybe 20-30 extra a year beyond the forecast. If you don't improve the retirement and post retirement benefits, some will hang on to avoid the pay cut until 65. If you bump the cap to 280k, 300k, 350k, or whatever, many will stay to sweeten the high 5. The bottom line is guys will walk when they'd rather hang out at home than study for recurrent, pack for trips, or deal with the points of friction that come with living out this crazy lifestyle. So far, the data seems to suggest 64.5 is about where that happens. I'd say we better get used to it…

I keep hearing guys saying how much that have already been taken from them. The fact is, nothing was taken away "there was no court order to take anything away" you guys gave it up "your unions". The thing is the more you're will to give, the more they're expecting to receive. Contract negotiations especially with companies as profitable as FedEx, should about improving the sections of the contract which needs improvement, not about giving up S$$T. These companies have you give up a little from you today and 5yrs later have you negotiate something away to get it back. Now if a company is facing bankruptcy, the entire company starting with management should make sacrifices to keep the company profitable. No one should get bonuses during bankruptcy or while while others are getting concessions. Your company is very profitable, stocks as we speak is $171.84 per share. DONT GIVE UP not even a penny. You guys deserve improvements to every section of your contract. Stay strong, we will join you guys in masses if that time comes.

And not just for the top 20%, all of us.

You have to include profit sharing when you make the claim we have the "best". Since we've had it before it's not nearly as radical as their proposals.

How can they gloss over the fact that they're asking us to buy into a notional PBS project? The code for it has not been written and it would be the most ambitious PBS attempt to date. When someone finally works on it no one really knows how it will turn out.

It will just be like ObamaCare. We dont need to read it; just wait until it is a reality and then deal with it. ....

Interesting comparison discussion going on about training and instructors. The others mostly don't do what they want our training department to turn into.
