It is taxed at your normal rate, it can however grow tax deferred with a back door Roth. And if you are over 25 years at the company it would be Better than the nothing you currently get. Again I do not like the company plan but 1) it cost nothing to listen; and 2) no reason to let misinformation about it go uncorrected.

Until the government changes the rules down the road and decides that they are missing out on too much potential revenue.

Just quickly looking at numbers based on a guy who is not going to get 25 yrs with the company, is not going to be a wide body capt, (unless he wants to have zero quality of life), basically does wide body FO his whole career...the 16.5% is significantly less than the current ( high 5x 2%x years service)...I'm bad at public math though

I'm not worried btw about new hires after the signing date of this contract having only th 401k option. If they don't like it, they won't come here. They will have that option, but I don't think giving up the A plan is any more of an option than PIBS.

Very true, same could be said for a pension that pays 10 times the poverty rate. You may wish you had taken the cash and bought gold or land with the Bible thumping gun nuts in Alaska if Alpapac gets its way in 2016.

There's no reason to work at FedEx over Delta/United/American without an APlan... in My Opinion or course. That's the only real reason I came here after 9/11... flying at night is worth an exponential amount more vs the same pay and retirement that those guys get...

Actually they want to give you far less than 16.5%!

We already get 7% B ...and the A fund

Thus, they are offering you 9.5% for your A fund

Redonkulous!!

It's overwhelmingly concessionary!

Hmm? How did the original B plan work out for American pilots long term?

Are you referring to their B-scale?

Without an A plan, I'd throw my app in with a pax carrier the next day. No movement, Deteriorating QOL, chief pilot witch hunts on sick and military leave. Sounds great.
