Quote: Trust me:

You will stop wanting to use your travel benefits after maybe two months of commuting to reserve. You will not want to set foot anywhere near an airport on your days off. You will come to loathe air travel anytime you are not working a flight.

Commuting sucks. Commuting to reserve REALLY sucks. Unless you're planning on moving to CLT, plan on hating your life and wasting days off commuting because you get non-commutable trips.
This guy right here ^^^^^ gets it!
Quote: Possible, but.... sounds like you understand it's completely based on where you stand in domicile. Seat seniority can vary greatly from base to base. What would be possible at 1 year in ORD or DTW is completely different than LA or SF. However, everything is fluid. Domicile, new flying, loss of flying, upgrades, attrition, fleet swaps, exc.. Nobody really knows.
Ain't that the truth. The only thing constant is change. And the funny thing is...while we line pilots have no clue about what's just round the bend, it is my firm belief that the folks at HDQ are often not much more ahead of the curve in terms of planning for what's next.
You're going to need seniority to get 7+ straight days off to travel unless you plan on using vacation.. Same goes for every airline. Going to be a bit of a shock if you think you're going to pull that off without doing some time.

You'll need a little seniority, especially if you want to be picky about other things as well.

But even a very junior line holder can get 5-6 days off at the end of one month and 5-6 days off at the beginning of the next month for 10-12 days off in a row.

PBS has line properties setup specifically for large group of block days off. You only need to be senior enough to hold a full line. You use line properties: max days off, max block days, waive default max work block, waive max block time in 7. Then you select 8 or so days off, i did the ones with the lowest preassignments. Stagger those through 4 layers. Make sure to check include standups.

The PBS helpline people walked me through the procedure and it worked to perfection. oh and at the time I was only 3 months off IOE. I got 9 days off in a row. Gave away one standup which then gave me 12 days off. The only downside was I worked like 10 days in row at the end of the month.

Well I guess I'm wrong! Thanks for that tip. Did you get the group of days you wanted off too?
Just transfer to a new base every month. You'll get 4 days off in a row, guaranteed

Lol what? I got 3 weeks off in a row this summer, on the days that I wanted, and have enough vacation time saved up to get paid decently.
