As far as i am aware they are not tso certified yet. But that doesnt stop people from using them from what ive seen. I use the david clark DC pro X's they have lasted me 3 years of regional flying abuse and 2 years now at united. Perfect noise cancelling for what we need, and about half as expensive as the new bose aviation headsets.

TSO PROCESS

As required by the FAA, UFlyMike must have all components of the TSO setup in our shop to test as a complete headset. After passing testing, each component will be labeled and a final TSO Model# will be added to headset. Any headset lacking the TSO Model# has not been tested by UFlyMike and is not TSO certified.



UFM MODELS:
We are no longer selling new UFM A100T microphones. However, we can still retroactively certify all UFMs made after October 8, 2008. To check if your microphone is eligible, look at the label on the back of the microphone. If the model starts with A100T, then your adapter can be certified as is. If the model is A100, then the adapter can be certified, but will require a circuit board replacement. Pro, Pro2 and Duo models cannot be certified. If you are uncertain which model you have, please call us and we can check our records.

In order to TSO certify a UFM, you must have the following components:

UFM model A100T or A100
UM-1 Earbud (available new)
Authentic Bose QuietComfort 2 or 15 headphone.
HARMONY MODELS:
The Harmony Headset is not currently TSO certified. However, we are planning on getting the QC25 version certified early in 2017. Due to limitations in the QC15 and QC2, we will not be getting certification for these headphones.

They'll be flying around with the left ear cup pulled back. ANR headsets at UAL are pretty worthless unless you get the occasional captain that has one as well. Most guys just have the ear plug and mic set up.

The DC pro X works great and is pretty comfy even when you have the ear piece pulled back. Don't bother with the ANR version though. I have it and never turn it on.

I'd have to say this depends on which fleet you're on. My experience in the 737 is that probably half the guys I fly with run an ANR headset and are hugely appreciative that I have one too. 4 days spent talking and not shouting at each other makes a huge difference, and actually leads to a conversation or two rather than just sitting next to each other for hours in what sounds like a hair dryer testing facility.

From what I hear, they are still not available. I called them about a year and a half ago to inquire and they said they were still working on them. I'm surprised they still aren't available, but I think it's taking a LOT longer than expected so who knows when they will finally be out.

I got the DC DC Pro X's and LOVE them. 20+ years of just using an ear mold came to an end when I went to the Uber Guppy. Man that this is DEAFENING. I'm finding more and more folks on the 737 are getting headsets. On the A320 and 757/767, I NEVER flew with anyone who had one (at least at LUAL). So it really depends on the fleet. But I would suggest your friend contact UFlyMike directly and ask when they are going to be ready. One thing to ask as well... If I remember right, you had to wear some sort of ear piece inside the Bose headsets with UFlyMike because when the batteries went out, the thing went silent. With the DC's, the ANR just shuts off, but you can still hear the radios.

Unlike McNugent I find HUGE value in the ANR

I use the DC-Pro-X on the 755. It helps me when listenening to foreign controller's. I wear it with one ear on and can easily switch sides when flying in Captains seat as bunkie.

Funny, but unfortunately true too. I often just turn my anr on and leave it over my ear. Most of the time I can hear just fine and don't need to expose an eardrum to a future disability.

I have flown on the 737, 320, and 757 767 at United. I personally love having ANR. Currently on the 320 it's not needed but I still put it on and enjoy it. I am using the DC Pro X because I grew tired of waiting for the UflyMike setup to come out. If your friend is a commuter then I say without a doubt get the tso UFM on the new Bose headset. If they fly international then once again I would say UFM because they can use it while taking their brake and then plug in again after break for comms (752 recirculating fans are loud in my opinion) If they are in the 737 and do not commute then I would think the DC Pro or A20 would be nice but single purpose.

I had a pair of ANR DC's from 1999 that I was using until 2015 (~11000 hours of use) when the headset bracket broke....they still work just need to send them off. I like the product and find them to hold up well. I have the DC Pro for a year and think they are comfortable. At the end of the day I still have a Bose QC25 for personal use when deadheading but originally bought them for commuting.

I use the DC Pro on the 737.

I use the headset as a commuter as well, I just fold the mic up. I turn the ANR on and Bluetooth to listen to music. It probably looks dorky, but I don't care.

It is a great headset. Got tired of waiting for uflymike. The DC Pro comes with a TSO as well.
