Yeah I know a few too. I think it's just ignorance of not knowing you had to do it on your own. But I'm not sure how you can expect the company to know about your outside flying unless you tell them. I haven't done it myself but there's a form on SWOL somewhere. I'm sure if you call up HQ they could help you out.
