Have the reserve rules or reserve situation improved at all since the last TA passed? Everything bad I see about it was posted last summer or earlier.

For junior guys, reserve is even worse now.

Why is that?

The new bidding system. You bid for days off instead of hard lines. Junior guys end up getting nothing that they bid for. The computer loves to dole out 5 on 2 off lines to the bottom third of reserves.

As a recent hire (June 2018), it's not always quite as bad as that - it just depends what you want. I needed Tuesdays off to meet with a client, for example, and have always been able to get that. I've also only had one instance where I wanted another day off but couldn't get it.

I suspect it depends heavily on the base, too - MSP and ORD are going to be different than FAT or PSP. Does that seem right?

No, it sucks.

True, you can bid for days off like the example given, but you’ll also be given weeks of 5/2...we don’t have 5 day trips so what’s the point. In addition the 5/2 assignments make it impossible to pick up any open time. Reserve sucks(Feb. 2017 hire) in a shrinking base.

You can certainly pick up locals during the '2' of a 5/2; I've done this many times but it does require living it base. But I get your point - 5/2 makes it impossible to pick up 2/3/4 day trips.

Again, where are you at seniority-wise in relation to other reserves in your base? I'm guessing not in the bottom third after 9 months in Minnie. So you didn't really read what I wrote. You also weren't here for hard lines which never beat on the junior guys so badly.

I'm pretty much on top of the other reserves, seniority-wise. I find I prefer long call to a junior line. But anyways...

You wrote...

I did in fact read that; my point was that it is not always true as it wasn't true at all in my case. I've *never* had an issue getting the day off I needed and bid for, even when I was on the bottom of the list. It just depends on what you want, the base, etc.
