when I was hired, they told me they hire captains, not pilots. So yeah. They have a captain shortage. As in pilots. They can call it whatever they want.

- in a surprise move, SkyWest will join a 3-way merger with Frontier and Breeze
- David Neeleman will be the new CEO and will lead the new company from SGU
- The company name will be SkyBreeze with cute animals painted on the tails of all airplanes. Insects on the tails of CRJ-200s.
- The combined company will be represented by SAPA. Details on the combined pilot contract are forthcoming, but everyone should "manage their expectations". It will take a few months. Or years. And after all, it's the busy flying season so nobody has time to review the contract anyway.

And metering to DL will drop from 7.5 months to 7 months.

Best thing for FOs to do is take the training and type rating, get a 1000 hours of 121 time, then bounce to ULCC or even to AA WO carriers as DEC.

You can get awarded LAS base in training at Frontier. Worth applying if you haven't already.

I bet they raise Captain pay way more then FO pay. They want FO’s to upgrade. The 40K bonus they did to get FO’s (“the 700”) to upgrade didn't work.. the other issues is all the Majors are about to get raises. So even $180+hr top Captan pay will still be less then second year FO pay at a Major.. the attrition will continue. But thats a good thing!! That means movement. Movement = QOL

You finally shaded the company accurately, and you even got a laugh out of me.

As long as OO can maintain eating the training costs and have a line of brand new CFIs waiting months for a class date there is no reason for SGU to raise FO wages. The training costs are not our problem and come out of a different budget....and maybe OO has planned for those costs anyways.

I think they are going to make it harder for captains that they already have to leave by increasing pay and they are going to put incentives on upgrades. Incentives still won't come with career progression and will probably lock upgrades into OO for a minimum of 2 years.

Without gaurantee of career progression outside of the company within a reasonable amount of time- I see NO REASON TO UPGRADE unless they are offering mainline wages (see envoy LCA pay) ..... And that is a long term solution for the pilots in the realm of reality.

This mentality is so prevalent right now across the industry the first reputable airline to implement a training contract will cause the others to follow too.

I really agree with you. I sure hope there is some focus on decent improvements to FO pay and QoL improvements. For FO pay, I am hoping to see it moved up to at least $60 an hour for Year 1. Of course I’d like more, but I am “managing my expectations”. Also hope to see at least one additional day off each month and several other QoL improvements as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see a laundry list of things, but these are just a few aspects I hope to see.

$75 an hour or it’s a no. Why would you expect to be paid 30$ less an hour than an envoy guy doing the same job? Why take a 33% pay cut vs them if there is no benefit to us. We take less pay for better QOL plain and simple. Value yourself and if you can’t do that at least value others enough to demand more.

Ik this is off topic, but does anyone know how to bid for long call reserve compared to ready reserve? Also is there an average of how long it takes to be able to hold long call reserve? Thank you!

I agree with you on valuing ourselves and sorry if I didn’t make myself clear. I will absolutely be pushing for more with my singular vote. I was just predicting what I think the end result might be and I hope I’m wrong and the pilot group holds out for more!

Unfortunately I think you’ll be right on being around $60 which it shouldn’t be. I’m hoping for a no vote until $75. Company can incentivize captain upgrades all they want but unless FOs see a reason to come to Skywest we’re gonna run out of new hires.
