I'm looking for insider insight into why DTW is the OO junior base from anyone willing to share. Is it all 15-hour min cred days that just suck your soul away in the grind? A city that's just seen better days and isn't desirable? One of my criteria is living in base so I wouldn't be a commuter, but nor would I want to get locked into a location where I hate going to work everyday. I'd appreciate the good, bad, and ugly, thanks!

An excerpt:
Detroit has once again been dubbed the "most dangerous city" in Michigan. That's according to the folks at the financial news and opinion site 24/7 Wall St., who dug into FBI data from 2017 to determine violent crime rates in nearly 2,000 cities and towns.
Here's what they found for Detroit:
2017 violent crimes per 100,000 residents: 2,057 (state: 450)
Number of violent crimes in 2017: 13,796 (30.8 percent of state total)
Poverty rate: 37.9 percent (state: 15.6 percent)
Annual unemployment: 9 percent (state: 4.1 percent)
Detroit's violent crime rate is the highest of any city in Michigan and more than quadruple the statewide violent crime rate of 450 incidents per 100,000 people. Also the most populous city in the state, Detroit reported 267 murders, or 47% of all murders in the state in 2017.

Another excerpt:
Detroit dropped to the nation’s second most violent big city last year, while violent crime in the city's suburbs rose in some communities and fell in others, according to FBI crime data released Monday.
A five-year look at violent crime trends shows steep decreases in some communities, while others had sharp increases.
Murders in Detroit were down to 267 in 2017 from 303 the previous year, according to the FBI's 2017 Uniform Crime Report. But the overall number of violent crimes increased slightly.
In 2017, 13,796 violent crimes were reported — murder, rape, assault and robbery — in the city compared with 13,705 in 2016, the FBI reported.
Detroit's rate of 2,057 violent crimes per 100,000 people placed it second-highest among cities with more than 100,000 residents, below St. Louis and above Baltimore, Memphis and Kansas City.

How is the flying in DTW vs. MSP, specially if you are in the more junior half of line holders? It looks like a mix of 200 and 7/9 and 4-5 leg days, etc. either way.
But, would one vs. the other have what is considered “better” trips not considering the city itself as a place to live? Let’s assume bidding in the lower 65-70% or so.

This is what I know and I wasn't going to spoil the secret. I was hoping people would put the flying on blast if it was utter garbage and that's why it's so junior. I take the silence as most don't know or care because they don't stick around long enough to find out.

I would say MSP had some longer leg 900 stuff out west and Canada but most of that has shifted over to the 175.

What are your thoughts on DTW as a base long term for SkyWest? With Delta saying they plan SkyWest to be their primary west coast carrier, and each of the three Delta regional carriers operating in certain regions of the country, is it possible SkyWest leaves DTW and Endeavor takes the base?

I don't know what OO's plans are but 9E announced they will be growing DTW and they already have a crew base there and I think some of the new 900's or the G7 planes will go there. It was pretty clear about OO going west though so my guess DTW probably won't be a huge focus for them for long.
