This statement ignores the history of the regionals pre-COVID. Sudden dearth? No...nothing was sudden. Applicants at the regionals were dwindling 5-10 years prior to COVID (read: dogsh!t pay and compensation). While the problem was specific to the regionals, it was advertised as being industry-wide which was never the case.

Precisely.

There was never a shortage of pilots. That was always a myth.

Some employers fell short in terms of enticements, but there was never a shortage of pilots.

Is the Pilot Pathway a condition of employment, or is it a option?

I recall discussions about a similar pathway after the investment from Skywest into Southern Airways Express. Apparently, the pathway there is not required, but there is still some sort of training contract.

This is the right.

And I think that actual flows can take that long, too. I heard an American pilot say that he got hired mainline out of the Piedmont flow, and had classmates still waiting to flow from there after 6 years.

It is all perspective.

This is a really good point.
