There’s a minimum number, something like 30 hours. We had folks with long drives and such that asked for and got a couple extra days. Sooner you finish, sooner you start earning for those flights, can pick up extra, can trade trips, etc.

That is the gist of the standard schedule. Having that over Christmas may change things up a bit and as always things can and do change at anytime.

Great write up! Thanks for taking the time to do that. Sounds like an actual training program now, especially like the Procedures Trainer aspect of it. When I went through a couple years ago there were actually senior leaders in the training center telling classes all you need to study is the Lights and Switches guide.

A couple of years ago the majority of newhires had the type...there were only five or six out of the 26 in my class without it.

We also had Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day off. I had about two or three days off after training before I started IOE.

I figured it was something that would help and give back a little to the site that was a wealth of info for me when getting to WN.

It at least gives a general idea of what the schedule will be when you arrive.

Default Hotel points

Do you accrue hotel points in training?
On the road?
If you don't get points, does anyone know if they can put them in as qualifying stays?

I only ask because I'm coming from the charter side where points are a perk, and I'm still hunting my "Hilton Honors Diamond Lifetime membership"

Short answer: no

However some in my training class had varying success getting points/nights credited for the 50+ nights we stayed at the Hilton, depending on how many times they called and who they talked to.

Checking into hotels on the road, they have your room keys waiting for you so I don't think those are eligible for getting nights/points but I could be wrong.

I got hotel points at the Sheraton because I didn't get my room serviced every day. That was the trick for getting the points with them... Not sure how it works with Hilton.

You can always leave a credit card on file and get a few points for whatever you eat/drink. But it was very rare to get the stay credit. I tried for a few months after I got hired and after a while I gave up.

BUT... you CAN convert your SWAG points (perfect attendance) into Rapid Rewards points and use it to buy Space positive tickets for your family vacations a few times a year. Saves me easily $2000 per year on family travel without the stress of trying to nonrev!

Hiltons on the road are hit or miss. Mostly miss. You can usually get lounge access but not stay credit or points for anything but room charges.
Marriotts are much more accommodating.
I use the doubletree in Houston as a commuter hotel, and although I don’t stay there often the nights add up. At $90 it isn’t cheap, but it is by far the best commuter hotel there and the free breakfast and stay credit makes it worth the extra coin.

I was a corporate guy. I was able to get free breakfast and an appetizer at the Hilton Arden West in SMF and a few others until my Hilton Gold ran out after a year.

STL will give points. Some give stay credits, but other than that, your status will decline.

Commuter hotels is the only way I’ve been able to gain good points—some pilots go for various Hilton Honors credit cards, or like the above post put a card down when they check in.

I was able to get two free nights worth of Sheraton points like the above room cleaning deal while in training.
