Good news is demand will improve. Bad news...he’s not wrong. IMHO the big 3 have structured themselves for worst case scenario. It’s time for Southwest to grab more market share left behind.

As bad as it is, it is increasing by 20% week over week. When Disneyland/World, Las Vegas, and Hawaii have been open for 30 days and bookings are analyzed, then we will know how things will settle in. Until then it is like trying to guess how many people will eat dinner at a New York City Restaurant on October 1.

People are getting pretty anxious. Maybe too anxious. The flood gates will indeed open and things will improve - dramatically from where they are. Will it be like last year - nope. Will there be furloughs - yep. However, my prediction is Jan 2021 will be 75% of Jan 2020 for Southwest. The legacies will only be 60% because of their international percentage impact.

Just my thought — If Gary plays an offensive, market share strategy (and I personally think he will), all of Southwest planes could be back Up and running by March/April 2021. This window of opportunity will close for him within 12-18 months. If he wants market share, he has to get it in the next 12 months.

And that’s exactly what I’m hoping (quite hard I might add) for. That they won’t furlough due to wanting to grab domestic market share. We have the savings shored up to operate very aggressively while the Big 3 pull back. This forum needs a “fingers crossed” emoji.

Never mind the downward pressure on wages and work rules thousands of pilots on the street is going to present for years to come.

As for being hopeful, I'm not. ALPA's briefings have included the very real likelihood of rolling waves of CV-19 and varying state reactions to them. Rolling waves will equal rolling shutdowns and stay at home orders. People, like it or not will be afraid. And the damage to our economy alone will keep people from spending money on vacations etc. I think this will ultimately be a crap sandwich for everyone. SWA is positioned to weather this the best. But we simply do not know the future and this is shaping up to fundamentally change air travel forever. There will be no, "return to normal".

Air travel changed forever and no return to normal ever?!? Yes ppl will prob have to have temp screenings and such for traveling from now on. But to act like that will keep ppl from traveling forever is over the top. Cruise bookings for August are up 200% year over year. People want to travel. Of course there will be setbacks along the way but I think you are painting an overly pessimistic outcome. Short term pain for sure, but if ppl were willing to travel with the BS TSA forces on them, then temp screenings aren’t goong to stop them either.

We don't know the timeline, but return to normal is very likely once there's a vaccine. Only question is how long will the economy take to recover.

Really the only way we never get back to normal would be radical political changes which intentionally ends the economy as we know it, coupled with environmental extremism which caps air travel at reduced levels.

yeah. If trump loses and the senate flips we could be looking at a green new deal to torpedo any recovery plans. Don’t worry though... it’s for the children.
