I have the LW bag that has the internal frame. A bit heavy, but no issues bending or anything. I've been flying with it about four years now (about 1 years worth of commuting) and it still almost looks new. I don't think I'll have to buy a new suitcase for several more years.

Agree about the external frame, I've only seen brand new ones and bent ones.

I have the LW external frame. First bag lasted 14 years, frame never bent. Not sure what people are doing to bend them. Only replaced the bag because the outside was tore up. I bought the newer version and have had it for 3 years. Still looks new, frame isn't bent. I sent the other bag in for refurb. They discontinued it. So they sent me the newer version for the $179 refub fee. I won't have to buy another bag until I retire. Look at the weights. The SB and LW bag are fairly close. If a couple of pounds prevents one from lifting a bag. You might want to start working out. LW also makes one with a small side pocket on the top of one side. I like that about my bag.

I’m starting year 8 with my SB Vortex. The telescopic handle locking pins are starting to wear a little (maybe a spring) so sometimes I can just push it down without pressing the button. That’s the only issue I’ve had. I’d buy again.

Every time I found a bag I liked, and it was under $350, all I see is "SOLD OUT" no matter where I looked. Ended up going to Target and getting a Swiss Gear bag. Fits better than my LW did (the side pockets were the hangup).

I've had a travel pro for 7 years. Still rolls good. Light weight but the screws under the seat have not been nice to it. Definitely got my money worth out of it.
waiting for our version of the Tumi TA for a new bag

Do you have the old vortex or the new vortex? I had issues like you describe with the first vortex I bought. But the new one (the 21), I haven't had those issues. On the newer handle the little pin plugs are made out of metal instead of plastic like my original. Push the button once and the whole handle comes down all the way to the bag. It’s a huge improvement over the older (I think 22) design.

Good question. It fits correctly in the overhead but I think the pins are metal. I’ll look closer tonight. I’m going to see about ordering parts.
