we've given them everything they wanted in the last few months under the guise of saving the company and now they put out a full schedule guaranteeing no furloughs.
I like the idea of cargo but I also think there are reasons we put reopeners in the contract.
the one year expiration is a good idea and maybe one that allows the company to get used to it then we get something the next time, however, quid pro quo has not happened in a long while. Ie: 800, max, hindsight, ETO etc

The full schedule isn’t a sure thing. They could easily slash a ton of flights if the demand isn’t there. As for the reopener, maybe this is a dumb question but what’s the point if we’ve already opened negotiations?

Cargo MOU

I'm not trying to be snarky as it's an honest question. What exactly is it that we are 'giving up' on this MOU? In this current environment, as long as SWA pilots are flying the cargo, the only thing I see us giving up is 'receiving' extra flying opportunities if we vote No on this. Am I missing something?

I feel like we are getting something in return, more revenue and more flying done by SWAPA pilots, yes it’ll go senior premium but that means they will hit cap like they probably would and there would be more for everyone else, doesn’t matter how you cut it there’s more flying done by our pilot group and improved job security with more revenue streams.

I respect your viewpoint tho !

Honestly I am not a hard no on the mou. What are we giving up? By specifically having an mou it fell outside of our negotiated contract. Cargo was a specific re-opener.

When a contract is negotiated by the union and the company it is with a total dollar value in mind. Weighing what the company can generate through revenue streams and basing our compensation off of that. We did not base our current contract on the fact that swa would be flying strictly cargo trips.

Again I’m not totally against it, but I would have at least like to have seen a gesture of good will. Some examples could have been closing some of the grievances, rolling back some other archaic rules here that would have not cost the company. Like reserve elitt to name one.

Just one pilots opinion. All I know is that swa has never let a good downturn go to waste. They play chess while we are still playing checkers.

I also think it’s a good trial run, if and I doubt it but if they turn this into something long term after it does well, and they commit to more cargo flying in the future then we will have a strong position at the negotiating table after our flying is returned to a full schedule (before long I think)

I don’t think we are that far apart. The company has a history of doing what they want and telling us to grieve it later. I’m glad they realized they needed an mou. We just differ on the type of compensation we should receive in return. Which is totally fine.

Fair enough. Good points.

Does today's ExTO/VSP offer count as a gesture of good will? A legitimate effort to avoid furloughs? I've yet to hear from anyone that's not more than surprised by the offer and it seems there will be a lot of takers.

Now the forum gangsters have six weeks to try and poke holes in it and talk their buddies out of taking it.

Any idea how these schedules will look? Is it along the lines of existing city pairs or some ad-hoc destinations? Sounds like a good plan.
