I've always wondered about this practice. Has it ever failed in an NG? How many people are actually observing the test, and how many are just going through the motions if they do it at all.
And aren't VOR tests only required by FAR every 30 days?

I do the test just like I do the TCAS test.
30 days per FAA, yes. Apparently it's a new procedure to make a write up in the logbook that a dual VOR test has been done if one wasn't done within the last 30 days.

No, I don’t. Just like I don’t put in the airport and gate when initializing the box but rather drag a GPS position from PAGE 2. Jesus, maybe in 50 years they’ll still be teaching “Just fly it like an NG”. Talk about stuck in the past with procedures. Oh, and don’t forget to “set zeros”

Any other "-200" SOPs that are cool to just ignore?
