Didnt GK also say he understands the concern over the force majeur clause is justified but he promises not to use it....but he won’t take it out. I only believe stuff in writing with firm dates / language. They def took out the big stick on culture for something that the government will probably provide aid for

He said stuff happens so IF he has to use it he said he would basically refund the 10%. I’m still a no if that language in there. They can come back to SWAPA and negotiate again if there’s another catastrophe.

From: DOWNGRADE COMPLETE: Thanks Gary. Thanks SWAPA.
Did GK really say that?! Lmfao. That’s rich.....
Sure, let’s trust a company that forced us to have 150 grievances outstanding or whatever the latest ever increasing number is out there.
For all of those at SWA who have no prior airline experience and haven’t been witness to what the Lost Decade did, you should understand that a FM clause can been used to absolutely destroy our contract.
Quite frankly, it’s a much bigger concern than even a 10% paycut.

There was also the 15% ROIC “promise” he made back then that was tied to the -800 order that he failed to keep.
If you listened to the conference call yesterday, it struck me that GK made reference once or twice to the idea that ultimately all employees are beholden to the shareholders of SWA and that we need to take a 10% pay cut because we owe it to them. That’s the same logic he used to explain his refusal to take advantage of the government loans that he deemed too “onerous” because they barred share repurchases and dividends.
Imo, GK is waving around the threat of furloughs because he knows how powerful of an effect it has on employees at SWA. He is simultaneously attempting to play the role of hostage-taker and rescuer. GK is playing on the idea of “culture” and “LUV!” and “NUTS!” that, in reality, hasn’t existed at SWA for a couple of decades (if it wasn’t entirely BS to begin with). He’s trying to leverage a fantasy to take food off of your family’s table. If we all weren’t so deeply mired and psychologically invested in the idea of SWA, we’d see GK’s “deal” that he offers us for what it is: the f’d up manipulations of a cult leader.

No one has addressed what will happen if we furlough on Jan 1st and then congress passes the PPP after the inauguration. Will we be recalled immediately or hung out to dry for 24 months? There needs to be something in the language to address that. I believe GK stated in the call yesterday, that cost wise, furloughs would need to be 24 months.
