The last 15 months should have shown the hubris behind this sentiment, especially considering how with orange man bad gone, we're getting a better look at the lab leak hypothesis and potential dangers of gain of function research. We are just as culpable as the Chinese, if this is the case, considering NIH grant money was funneled into the WIV to do gain of function research on bat coronaviruses.
No sarcasm at all. I absolutely believe vaccines and right now mRNA is the absolute pinnacle of dominance over Mother Nature. No hubris at all, it’s fascinating to watch how they have designed, tested and implemented a system to train ones body to fight a virus. That technology will be without a doubt the biggest breakthrough for decades in medical research. They are talking in the future being able to change out the strands within weeks not months.

I have seen no empirical evidence whatsoever that this was a man created virus. I’m not going to discount the thought BUT Occams Razor states “ entities should not be multiplied without necessity", or more simply, the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

I had a long message typed out, but it's too nice a day to debate something that effectively changes nothing, so I'll just respond with "we'll see."

Every time we think we've established dominion over something as complex as nature, she has a nasty way of smacking us in the nose with a rolled up newspaper like the stupid puppies we are.

Clearly we have not, nor will we ever, establish dominion over Mother Nature. I think we should know this. But we can improve our odds through science. Airplanes fly because of science. I flew with a guy about a year ago who raged for three days about everything he could think of. Old man shouting at clouds was never more clear than with this guy. He raged at the space program and that's when I finally had to tell him that without the space program we don't have GPS and we're not going to have time to rage about it because we'd be going from one NDB to the next. He accepted the truth in this.

The posts above about vaccines being among the most important things in human history isn't exaggeration or hyperbole. They're also not new. We've been learning about vaccines from hundreds of years. Without them we'd be living with Polio and Tetanus and Smallpox and other gruesome things we have been able to get under control. The difference here is the speed with which this was developed. It was very fast and with federal support because the threat to our way of life, everywhere on the planet, is at high risk if we don't control this pandemic. Maybe it burns itself out eventually and that would be great if the virus evolves into a more benign thing and becomes endemic and relatively harmless. But we know it can be a bad, bad thing to contact COVID-19.

I am six days out from my second shot. I got them through Walgreens and the process was relatively easy and the side effects minimal. I would encourage skeptics to read more into the science of this and consider getting it. I wish to avoid the political angle but even the former president, who was a vocal provocateur WRT the pandemic, has received the vaccine and has recommended it.

When I say dominance over Mother Nature there is no hyperbole at all in my belief. Mankind like no other being has modified Mother Nature to service it’s needs. We need to stop flooding we build a dam. We need power we split atoms. We want to go places faster and shrink the world we invent cars and airplanes and boats. Want to stop a rising sea we build dikes. Want to build a 1500 foot tower on sand we engineer the sh8t out of it and use Mother Nature to anchor it to the ground. Google it and see how they did it friction is amazing when used properly. There is nothing and I mean nothing we can not do given resolve and capital. That’s my belief....only thing we haven’t figured out yet is bending time, but remember we have only been on this rock for a very short time period of its history, so my belief is it will happen.

Well geez, I would hope so. He sure wasn't shy about taking credit for it.

I am with you on all of this. My point was that when we think we've won Mother Nature reminds us she's pretty powerful too. But your point on all this is well received. Modern science is like 100-150 years old and that's a blink of an eye in the grand scheme of things.

There’s no such thing as Mother Nature. There’s science, physics, biology, mathematics, etc; and a God behind it who reveals its secrets to us and therefore we are able to adapt.

The fatality rate will come way down. As has been seen.
