Heard there are a couple of guys who took VSP who’ve already upgraded at Fed Ex. Also heard that latest Fed Ex new hire class had an upgrade award available. If true, wow. Stacked up against our 10-year upgrade and what that says about seniority progression between the two places paints a pretty stark contrast.

Upgrade time and seniority progression are not the same thing. In a 1 base 1 type company, strong correlation. Multiple bases, narrow/wide bodyvery weak correlation. Few years ago, DL had 1 year captains in NYC on the MD. Do you really think they were 35% relative seniority company wide? (Assuming 30% WB, and WB FO > NB CA). The only reason those guys can hold the MEM-CA-757 seat is becuase the 2500 FOs senior to them didn’t want to be in that seat.
At least they had the choice to chase the big money (and take the QOL hit). No such option here.

Sure there’s the option to chase the big money here.
If the money is what you’re chasing, with a corresponding QOL hit, you do that by picking up and whoring yourself out. Plenty of us made captain money this year, but worked our butts off to do it.
Where we grossly lag is being able to have the option to sit in the left seat and make the same money while working junior captain schedules.
Which is better? That depends on an individual.
With our rules, I’d commute to reserve. With UAL’s NB reserve rules, no way in hell. Don’t know enough about FedEx junior reserve schedules.

Absolutely, making first year CA pay ISO FO pay, huge! But I think that after being on reserve for 5 years, flying with FOs senior to them, who probably made just as much due to better seniority, the glow might have dulled.

Quoted from the End of Year 2021 Salary thread in the Majors section (post #342):
Airline: FedEx
Fleet: B777
Payscale: year 3 FO
W-2 wage: 620K (Worked extensions in my favor)
Block hours flown 160 FO and maybe 100 RFO ?? 12 total landings in 2021
Days worked: 118 but realistically much less cut days off both ends with double DHDs
Commuter status: Commute but only do deadhead front and back trips so Not applicable
A family member of mine who is a 777 CA made 1.1m… Dont think he will post here

You might be right. Sounds like being a FedEx FO is a pretty good gig - beating all but the whoriest of SWA captains in terms of gross pay and blowing SWA captains away in terms of pay per days worked. And then being a more senior FedEx captain sounds like it’s an even better deal.

But we’re SWA pilots. What we don’t make in cold, hard cash, we make up for in our fun-luvving culture and pride in knowing we’re better pilots because we fly a lot, lot more.

I wonder how many of our FO’s made more than $600K? And I wonder how many of our captains made more than $1M?

Not as much as you'd think, especially in light of what's been going on in the past 6-8 months. Look at Thunder1.... over 400k as an FO here and I know plenty more like him well into the 400's.
