I was hired in late 2015, and the projected upgrade at the time was ten years. Current snapshot may still hold true but we will see what happens in the next three years….for a junior base, I.e OAK.

Currently for captains it goes IN ORDER JUNIOR TO SENIOR:

OAK
LAX-102 from the most junior captain
DEN-237 from the most junior captain
LAS-278
DAL-282
HOU-407
MDW-568
PHX-677
BWI-701
MCO-1742
ATL-1765

The highest retirements will be DAL, PHX, HOU, and MCO. But MCO is a revolving door that seems to be a destination amongst guys about to retire.

Good luck with your decisions.

I'd think lax will come down as they expand and be the most junior. Den should come down as well with that massive expansion. But I'd always count on oak and lax to be the junior.

Interesting...
That puts me about 700 from where I would consider upgrading. Should be an interesting year for sure.

2014 hires are only 550ish numbers away from the bottom OAK slot.

Figure that many bypassers are East Coast people and growth/juniority will be OAK/LAX/DEN and we could easily see a 2014 hire in class by then end of 2022.

Hold your horses there fellas. The most junior Captain was hired in June 2011. But you have to look 300 numbers senior to him to find 20 more Captains!

There are a TON of people who have bypassed for whatever reason and who have been involuntarily held in the right seat (due to Covid stagnation) for the last two years and who may be ready to switch seats.

(They say you know when you're ready to upgrade when even your favorite captain ticks you off)

I appreciate your optimism but I sincerely doubt you'll see a 2014 hire switching seats in 2022.

I may be on the hook for RJ's BBQ dinner, but it's going to be a photo finish.

They'll be a whole new group of bypassers. COVID has shown many how nice it is to be at home, verses spending every weekend in a West Coast commuter hotel.
