I caveat this by saying I have no business training whatsoever, but this stinks of tribalism… eliminating premium.

I think which ever airline of the big 4 signs first is not only going to set the bar for pay rates, work rules, LTD, inflation protection and healthcare, but be at a huge disadvantage. The benefactors are going to be the pilots of the other carriers. I have no problem delaying to let another carrier go first.

I think we should be aggressive in pursuing all avenues to move toward a contract, but I really do not want Southwest to be the first to sign. However, we need to be in position to leverage everything we have immediately following that signature.

This, in a nutshell, is exactly why we've lagged the industry for decades.

The last contract was even worse in that respect. On top of that, we ratified 19 side letters to that turd, several of which were done DURING Section 6 "negotiations". All benefited the company, and not only did we not get anything in exchange for them, not one of them benefitted the pilot group in any measurable way. Several actually hurt us, not to mention squandering what little leverage we had, for less than nothing.

Yet, in every case, the majority couldn't wait to hit that YES! button.

It was truly surreal to witness.

Fingers crossed that more eyes are open, and the Kool Aid has been diluted these days.......
