Default WN Pilot Shortage

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thestreet.com/.amp/travel/southwest-airlines-big-problem-is-bad-news-for-holiday-travel

Math dictates a solution must be found. Organic hiring wont cut it. So the question is, either stagnate or aquire another carrier.

Who is the practical target?

Sounds like they’re hiring over 3k in two years, if they can pull it off. Are you saying they can’t pull it off, or it’s not enough?

Nothing an industry leading contract won’t fix.

We’ve got classes for sixty pilots each coming up. I believe their intent—it will be interesting to see what actually happens.

Practical would be Alaska and word through the grapevine is that SWA had been trying but Alaska wants too much and prefers to stay independent.

Buying someone else isn’t going to solve the staffing shortage unless that carrier is over staffed on pilots or you’re going to shed some of their aircraft.

Not big enough to bother with. Older NGs instead of MAXes, so what would be the point. No offense to Sunny pilots whatsoever.

Besides, SWA would just screw up the Amazon flying anyway like they did with the WATRS routes they inherited from the last “marriage”.

Agreed. I still believe plan B is Frontier. Lots of young pilots, a second fleet type with tons of airplanes already on the (otherwise heavily backlogged) order book.
