Quote: This is sage advice for sure. The CP is not your friend generally and has the companies interests, not yours, in mind.

If only everyone would realize this. They have a job to do , do not tell them anything you would not tell the system CP or FAA

Yep. I love my chief pilot. I think he is the best in the system. I have flown with him many times and would trust him to do right by me if I ever got into trouble as long as I was honest with him. That being said, I don't talk to him in the office other than saying hi in passing. I don't go into his office to chat. He comes out into the lounge sometimes to take face shots and I give them, but that's it. He isn't my friend and I am not his. He has a job to do and he does it well, but everyone has a master and his is in Dallas.
Being a line pilot is the best job in the company. You walk off the jetway at the end of the trip and they could care less if you are dead or alive until your next push time. Why anyone would volunteer for the abuse of working in the office, I have no idea, but their motivations make them automatically suspect in my eyes.

have I told you I thought you’d make an excellent CP? You’re a straight shooter with upper middle management written all over you.

Oh god. I would be fired inside of 5 minutes. "E6bpilot is returning to the line so that he can spend more time with his family. Let's thank him for the minutes of dedicated service he gave to our pilots."

Why are you in the lounge so much?

Sadly, I commute. It's either that or go swim in the cesspool of humanity in the airport. I have heard that there is a version of this job where you drive to work, I am looking into it.

"We talked a lot about what's constraining the airline. And right now, that is pilot hiring. So, we have aircraft effectively that we are not producing capacity out of today because the constraint is just pilots." - Bob Jordan

Pilot contract negotiations day 1,005.

Let that sink in.

Jordan identifies the problem and then chooses inaction.
