Cramped, loud, and uncomfortable cockpit of the 737 and the up and down domestic grind.

I think anyone that has been around a while recognizes this as a sinking ship. It is just a question of how long it will last. The product is dated, the model is dated, this is an airline that up till a few years ago required you to buy your own type rating. That is just one step up from a "pay for training" company. It relies on the "cult of Herb" mentality to survive. But Herb left 20 years ago and has been dead for 4. This is not Herb's airline. It is not Mesa, but it is on its way. If you are 55 and like the right seat, great. If you are just starting out, think long and hard about flying the worst airliner for the worst airline and waiting for the ship to sink.

So when are you retiring?

Exploiting Culture is now the Southwest Culture.

We have a SWA Culture Facebook group with 20,000 employees, all post and comments critical of the company is censored and removed by the moderators.

I thought the reason for becoming an airline pilot was not to work for a living. We used to hear that all the time when we were growing our wings.

Going to bed at 3 AM or getting up at 3 AM with no end in site. Our schedules mostly suck, they used to be a lot better.

I agree with you. And I’ve tried to make the same point. My schedules support what you’re saying. And I’m pretty senior.

However, there are several guys here on APC who, in a nutshell, report not flying more than a nine hour duty day nor more than two legs in a day for months at a stretch.

I wish I knew how they did it. I haven’t been able to pull a schedule like that in years.

I thought so too.

IMO, one of the dynamics driving the phenomenon of guys rejecting that philosophy at SWA is the ego (we all have one) rationalizing the decision to come to SWA and then, stay here.
