SWA junior base?

What’s the time frame to get OAK?

Why else would UA have opened MCO and LAS?

Same reason SWA has a crew base in both locations.

Lots of overnighting airplanes plus flying there prone to IROPS/sick calls/chaos. Lots of pilots that live in the area that can help recover the operation in a meltdown scenario.

Those two things alone make it worth it to keep a small crew base open and staffed. UA has a coterminal in TPA for the same reason. Anyone who has tried to drive that stretch of I-4 anytime past 1pm knows what a nightmare it can be, but lots of pilots live near TPA, so it works fine.

I think the notion that they opened a crew base to make pilots happy or attract/retain pilots is honestly hilarious. I guarantee it isn't even a consideration.

Anything anyone tells you now outside of a rough guess is just throwing darts at a board. No hiring plus reshuffling manning and causing displacements has put any predictions way out of whack.

The latest plan they gave us was without any hiring, which is curious since the hiring is definitely happening. Looks like Orlando is going to start going junior again and Denver, PHX, and HOU are going to be shrinking causing more displacements. Oakland used to be the junior base in the system, but not any more. Without any sustained hiring, it is just too unpredictable to make any sort of assessment.

Not so much the case in the current hiring environment, but it was definitely something airlines thought about in the 2022-2023 timeframe when everyone was hiring like crazy.

FWIW FAs were just told 260 will be pulled out of OAK by march. They didn't say where they were going tho

Something is happening in March….300 pilot vacancies they don’t know where they’ll go and now this. Screams new base.

Agreed. That's my conclusion too.
